Thrashing-machines.-A thrashing- machine is furnished with dressing apparatus comprising a smut brush arranged between the husk cutter and sieve, and separators between the sieve and sifting drum, means being provided for throwing these members out of operation if desired; the straw shaker and chaff riddle are provided with inclined cross-members, and the chaff riddle is supported at one end by cranks. The corn is led into a pipe 22, Fig. 2, whence it is fed by a conveyer 18 to the husk cutter 19, being discharged into a second pipe 21 provided with a flap 29 which deflects it into the smut brush comprising rotating beaters 27 working in an emery-lined cylinder. A pipe 30, fitted with a sieve 31, and in communication with a ventilator 32, withdraws light impurities, and the corn is discharged by a branch 26<1> into a sieve 33 discharging by a hopper 35, 34 into the pipe 22. The corn is then led by means of branches 41 into separators 36, and thence to a sifter 44. By closing the flap 29 the corn is deflected straight to the sifter 44. The straw shaker comprises longitudinal members 7, Fig. 3, with inclined teeth supporting cross-members 5. The riddle in front of the straw shaker and the chaff riddle comprises frames 9, Fig. 4, with inclined cross-members 10, and is supported at one end on cranks 13.
