Abstract
A cylindrical permanent magnet 1 is inserted into a hole in a wall 2 creating a magnetic attachment system 4 for the effective and secure affixation of items to the wall. These items may be notes or the like, to be held between the wall (equipped with the wall-inserted system 4) and any ferrous or magnetic or magnetised objects. Alternatively ferrous, magnetic or magnetised objects may be mounted seemingly directly to the wall 2 (in reality to the wall-inserted system 4) for the purpose of display, while leaving the same items easily detachable and undamaged. The hole is drilled into the wall 2.
Description

1 2435210 Wall-inserted magnetic attachment system The invention
relates to a cylindrical permanent magnet inserted into any wall to effectively attach and securely affix items. These items may be notes or the like, to be held between the wall and any ferrous or magnetic or magnetised objects. Alternatively ferrous, magnetic or magnetised objects mounted directly to the wall for the purpose of display, while leaving the same items easily detachable and undamaged.

To enable the use of magnets to attach other items to any wall, one would usually need a metal surface attached to that wall. Alternatively screws, nails, pins or the like, or glue, double-sided tape or the like would be necessary to attach items directly to the wall. The first instance necessitates mounting metal or magnetic boards or sheets to the wall, which causes permanent damage to the wall as well as requires the purchase of such metal surfaces.

In the second instance one would cause damage to the wall, but in some cases also to the items pinned, screwed, nailed, glued or otherwise attached onto the wall.

This invention, while requiring drilling a hole into the wall, immediately fills the hole with the insertion of a cylindrical permanent magnet in the same manner as a plug is inserted into a wall. It therefore causes no more damage than a nail would, and may just as easily be covered, e.g. by paint or wallpaper. More importantly, it would not cause any damage such as holes, tears, stains, residue or rips to items one desires to attach to the wall, in the way that screws, pins, nails, adhesive putty, glue or tape may do.

Furthermore, once the cylindrically shaped permanent magnet is embedded out of sight in the wall, one has the advantage of utilising one's ordinary wall to mount any item with a ferrous content seemingly directly onto walls made of plaster, wood, MDF or the like, or using such ferrous items to attach notes and similar items to the wall where such items would not normally attach. This is not only convenient for the person attaching the items, but also creates an element of pleasant surprise and awakens the curiosity of people who are unaware of the insertion of a cylindrical permanent magnet.

The cylindrical shape is necessary to maximise the power of the magnet, which is polarised perpendicularly to its length. Furthermore, with such a shape gravity will ensure that it will stay steadily embedded in the wall even when heavier items are attached to the wall-inserted magnet.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a cylindrically shaped permanent magnet (1); Figure 2 shows a cylindrical hole (3) which has been drilled into a wall (2) where a cylindrical permanent magnet (1) is to be inserted; Figure 3 is a cross section of a wall (2) to show how a cylindrical magnet (1) has been inserted into an equally sized hole (3) creating a wall-inserted magnetic attachment system (4); Figure 4 shows cylindrical wall-inserted permanent magnets (4), onto which a cylindrical permanent magnet (1) is being attached through magnetic attraction for the purpose of securely attaching some item between the two.

As shown in figure 1, the shape of the magnet is cylindrical. The cross section of the wall in figure 3 demonstrates how the magnet (1) is securely inserted into the wall (2).

Being magnetised perpendicularly to its length, the long length in proportion to its diameter assures the cylindrical magnet's attraction power. Furthermore, the gravitational spread over the length of the magnet assures that it holds several hundred times its own weight. Whereas one would usually require the mounting of metal boards, with the minimal cylindrical permanent magnets all the advantages of a metal board are present in one's existing walls without all the hassles of purchase, transportation and mounting (eventually also dismounting) the former would incur. Moreover, the wall-inserted system achieves an even stronger attraction than what would be attainable with a magnet to a metal board. This is attained by using a magnet which is polarised contrarily to a wall-inserted permanent magnet.

Furthermore, the wall-inserted permanent magnet is barely visible to the eyes (and not at all if covered by paint or wallpaper), and as shown in Figure 4 even if it is not covered by paint or the like, it is easily covered perfectly by any ferrous object -in this case a magnet of the same size. Though it may not be shown here (as only drawing pertaining to the invention itself are allowed in the figures), the wall-inserted permanent magnet is strong enough to hold proportionally heavy ferrous objects such as key rings, belts, cutlery etc. One may also use either such items or similar ones to attach notes or other paper items to the wall. As mentioned, the strongest hold is achieved when using a contrarily polarised magnet when attaching items to the wall-inserted one.

Claims (1)
-
Claims 1) A wall-inserted magnetic attachment system realised byinserting a cylindrically shaped permanent magnet into an equally sized hole drilled into the wall in question.

2) A wall-inserted magnetic attachment system as claimed in claim 1, where the cylindrical magnet is inserted into the wall by other means than drilling.

3) A system as claimed in claim I and claim 2, where the cylindrical magnet does not match the size of the hole, but where the hole has been filled with other material/s to fit the magnet securely.

4) A system as claimed in claim I, claim 2 and claim 3, where the cylindrical magnet has been covered by paint, wallpaper or the like.

5) A wall-inserted magnetic attachment system substantially as herein described above and illustrated in accompanying drawings.
