Abstract

An Audio Command Diesel Fuel Filler Cap to prevent incorrect fuelling comprising of a printed circuit board (1), speaker (2) and battery (3). The circuit is activated by contact A (4) meeting contact B (5). This is achieved as contact point B (5) is located on a swivel arm (6), which is rotated when the cap is opened. The arm (6) is then returned to its original position by a return spring (7). The cap once turned, gives an audio reminder or alert that the user should fill with diesel fuel. The fuel cap could be programmed to say which fuel should be used, and could be programmed in any language. A voice activator may be attached to the circuit board, upon completion of the circuit, a recorded message may be heard through the speaker.

Description

SPECIFICA TION

Audio Command Diesel Fuel Filler Cap The Audio Command Diesel Fuel cap is a filler cap (see figure 4), which when turned, as though to remove it, alerts the Driver, by audible sound (see figure 1) of the Fuel to be used (Diesel). The audio command is a reminder not to and prevention of using incorrect fuel.

Due to modern technology Diesel engines have become quieter and drive more like a petrol engine, often causing drivers to put Petrol in their tanks by mistake. It is not possible, due to the size of the filler neck, to put Diese' fuel into a Petrol tank, but very easy to put Petrol into a Diesel tank.

The cap, once turned, gives an audio reminder/alert that the driver should fill with Diesel fuel (see figure 1), reducing the risk of error and inconvenience of having the vehicle recovered and the tank drained, which can incur huge costs.

As the fuel cap is turned through a predetermined angle (with relation to the prototype I have made, this is about 10 degrees), contact is made within the cap making a circuit (see figure 2), which activates the audible sound device, which in turn, through the speaker at the top of the cap (see figure 3), gives the command Diesel'. This command can be set to any language, fuel usage or command. Once the cap is released the internal spring returns the cap to its normal rest position (see figures 3 and 4).

What happens? The cap is turned, as though to remove it to add fuel. In doing so the cap internally moves over the contact plate causing a circuit (see figure 2). This circuit activates the audible sound device. The result, for the purposes of example and as the prototype states, Diesel' is sounded through a speaker on top of the cap (see figure 3). The spring inside of the cap returns to the cap to its starting position (see figures 3 and 4).

Description by Example

The fuel cap is designed with a static base, which has a printed circuit board attached internally (see figures 1 and 2). Attached to the printed circuit board is the voice activator, a battery (3V), contact plate A', which is made in copper, and wiring that is connected to the speaker in the top of the cap (see figures 1 and 2). The top of the cap rotates 10 degrees, encompasses the speaker and contact B', which is also made of copper. Contact B' is wired to the printed circuit board, located in the static base (see figures 1 and 2).

When the cap is removed from the filler neck it is turned and thus rotated 10 degrees. Contact A' meets contact B' completing the circuit. This results in the voice activator being powered to sound the recorded message (Diesel) and thus allows it to be heard through the internal speaker (see figure 1 and 3). The rotating top has a return spring, which upon removal breaks the two contacts and the cap returns to its starting position.
