Abstract

This invention relates to an elasticated fastening device, with decorative potential comprising of elastic straps with popper fasteners, to keep in the contents of an object, for example boxes, parcels, diaries, wallets, purses, pencil case, books and files. It could also be used to hold together papers and photographs, or as a bookmark. The design is either a single band with one male and female popper, or a pair of bands in an off-set cross shape with two male and female poppers. A variant of the design, using a use-once only popper could be used around postal parcels. This invention is designed to be an attractive item in its own right, with a decorative plastic logo or 3D design on top of the popper(s), and the elastic straps could be coloured or carry a design of some kind. This would also make the invention a possible substitute for a ribbon around a gift.

Description

<p>Pop Band This invention relates to an elasticated fastening device,

with decorative potential, comprising of one or two straps with popper fasteners, to keep in the contents of boxes, parcels, diaries, wallets, purses, pencil case, books and files. It could also be used to hold together papers and photographs, or as a bookmark. A variant of the design, using a use-once only popper could be used around postal parcels.</p>

<p>Boxes often lose their lids in transit and spill their contents. They can be secured with a conventional elastic band, but this looks unattractive, especially for make-up and similar fashion products.</p>

<p>This invention is designed to be an attractive item in its own right. The popper(s) will have a decorative plastic logo or 3D design on top and the elastic straps could be coloured or carry a design of some kind. This would also make the invention a possible substitute for a ribbon around a gift Figure 1 shows the under side of a single pop band, with the male popper in view. The strap is elastic, of the kind readily available in haberdashers, but the ends will need to be coated in plastic to prevent fraying. The poppers are plastic and snap together, and would normally come apart if pulled, unless a security version, with a use-once design was used.</p>

<p>Figure 2 is the upper side of a single pop band, showing a plastic floral decoration on the top of the male popper. The popper would always have some form of decoration on it, but this conk! be adapted to suit the taste of the user, or to act as a promotional logo for a distributor. The popper would be riveted in to the elastic strap. The figure also shows the female popper riveted in at the other end of the strap.</p>

<p>Figure 3 is a side view of the pop band joined up.</p>

<p>Figure 4 shows the under side of a twin strap pop band, with the male poppers in view.</p>

<p>The two elastic straps are stitched together so that the section labelled "a" is shorter than the section labelled "d" and the section labelled "b" is shorter than that labelled "c". This ensures that the poppers end up side by side when the hand is in use around an object, as in Figure 6.</p>

<p>Figure 5 shows the upper side of a twin strap pop band, with plastic floral decorations on the two male poppers, and the female poppers in view at the other ends of the Straps.</p>

<p>Figure 6 is a birds-eye view of the twin strap band wrapped around a rectangular object.</p>

<p>Figures 7 and 8 are 3D versions of the same band around a cubic object. This is shown transparent in figure 8 so that the position of the band underneath the object can be seen.</p>

<p>Working prototypes of both the single and twin strap pop band have been constructed and tested out in a variety of applications.</p>

Claims (1)

1. <p>Claims 1. An elasticated fastening device, with decorative potential,

   comprising of one or two elastic straps with popper fasteners, that can be stretched around an object and locked by the popper(s) to keep in the contents of that object.</p>

   <p>2. A twin strap variant of the band in Claim 1 with the straps being stitched together so that they form an off-set cross shape.</p>

   <p>3 A variant of either the general band in Claim 1 or the specific twin strap hand in Claim 2 fitted with use-once poppers to ensure that the contents of the object protected are not tampered with.</p>

   <p>4. A version of either of the bands as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 with decorative elasticated ribbon taking the place of the elastic straps.</p>

   <p>5. A fastening device substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.</p>
