Abstract

A headscarf made from one piece of material. The headscarf has a partially elasticated edge that is usually worn at the front of the wearer's head, and at the back of the headscarf, a short elasticated seam b, and two tie-backs c, d. The tie backs allow the user to control the tension of the scarf's elasticated front edge and back seam, to ensure the headscarf is held firmly on the head of the user even during vigorous movement. The headscarf may also be used in the reverse position, with the tie-backs tied at the front of the wearer's head. The headscarf may be made from lace, cloth, plastic or a combination of these materials.

Description

THE DESCRIPTION

HEADSCARF

The headscarf is of the type which employs support for effectiveness and may be used in the work and home settings.

Many types of headscarves are available but they do not have the advantage of giving that firm control to the wearer. Often, such headscarves may ride off the head during activities which call for much movement of the head. They may also leave red marks around the forehead because the tension cannot be controlled.

The purpose of this headscarf is to provide a headgear which allows adjustable tension and firm hold onto the head, even during vigorous movement.

Accordingly, this headscarf uses some elasticity on its front edge, along the forehead. Its two ends are used as tie-backs which allow the wearer to adjust the tension on the head.

The headscarf can also be used in a reverse position to enable tying at the front of the head.

The headscarf may be made of materials such as lace or fabrics, plastic or any suitable material depending on the intended use.

A preferred embodiment of the headscarf will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 -is a side view of the whole headscarf with the elasticated front edge (a), the elasticated back seam (b) on the outside, and the ends (c) and (d) to be used as tie-backs.

Figure 2 -is a side view of the whole scarf with the elasticated inverted back seam (e) which is less conspicuous.

Figure 3 -is a front view of the headscarf tied unto the head with the tie-backs (c) and (d) visible from behind the neck and the elasticated front edge (a) providing just enough pressure on the forehead to keep the scarf in place.

Figure 4-is a view of the headscarf from the back of the head, showing the elasticated back seam (b) in use. The tie-backs (c) and (d) are tied into a knot (or bow) which helps control the amount of tension around the head.

As shown in Figure 1, the scarf comprises a length of material that has been folded. Elastic has been sewn on the front edge (a) and stretches across the forehead only. The short gathered back seam (b) has been elasticated with the elastic exposed on the outside. This can be given a lacy or colourful decoration if preferred.

Figure 2 repeats Figure 1 but shows the inverted back seam (e) which gives a neater finish.

Figure 3 shows how the elastic across the forehead extends gently at the front to help hold the scarf unto the head. The tie-backs (c) and (d) which may be long or short, may be tied into a neat knot or bow or stylishly, depending on how the scarf is to be used. The short tie-back may be preferred in industry and the long may be preferred for use in the home or as a fashion accessory.

Figure 4 shows how the short elasticated back seam (b) or (e) allows for added control from the back and works with the front edge (a) and tiebacks (c) and (d) to control the pressure on the scalp or head. It also shows the short tie-backs (c) and (d) which are tied neatly and attractively.

The headscarf Fig. I and Fig. 2 might be worn in the reverse position with the tie-backs (c) and (d) being tied on the forehead and the elastic edge (a) used for supporting from the back of the head.

Claims (1)

 1.
CLAIMS

HEADSCARF

1. A headscarf consisting of one piece of material partially controlled at one edge and the other having a short gathered and supported seam opening unto the tie-backs.

2. A headscarf as claimed in Claim I where the front edge support is made of elastic and the back seam too is supported by elastic.

3. A headscarf as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 is made from lace, cloth, plastic or a combination of these materials.

4. The headscarf is as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows

CLAIMS

I hereby claim: 1. A headscarf consisting of one rectangular piece of material of varying length, depending on the desired length of the pair of its tie-backs which may be long or short, and partially elasticated at one edge and the other having a short elasticated seam opening unto the tie-backs.

2. A headscarf as claimed in Claim 1 where the front edge support is made of elastic and the back seam too is supported by elastic.

3. A headscarf as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 is made from lace, natural or manmade fabric, or plastic of any colour or combination of colours and may be decorated as the manufacturer or wearer wishes.

4. A heaclscarf as claimed in Claims I and 2 where the tie-backs are a part of the scarf and not an attachment as the scarf is made of one rectangular piece of material with no part cut away.

5. A headscarf of which the tie-backs are crossed behind the neck to be tied into a knot and are adjustable to secure the scarf unto the forehead as they work with the elastic front edge making it contractible, thus controlling the pressure on the forehead and the crown of the head.

6. A headscarf of which, when it is worn in the reverse position, the tie-backs are crossed on the forehead to be tied into a knot and are adjustable to secure the scarf to the back of the neck as they work with the elastic front edge making it contractible, thus controlling the pressure on the back of the neck and head.

7. A headscarf which opens at the back from the point where the back seam ends and where this opening becomes closed off as the tie-backs are made into a knot either behind the neck or on the forehead.

8. A headscarf where pressure and control of movement of the hair and/or objects in it come from the elasticated front edge and the vertical back seam working with the tie-backs.

9. A headscarf which, by virtue of its elasticated front edge and back seam may lie flat to support short hair styles, or expand to take in bulkier styles and rollers, holding them in place thus helping to maintain the desired position for these objects by providing effective control.

10. A headscarf, which, although it is not lined, could be worn on the reverse side, if the wearer chooses.

11. A headscarf in which, apart from the stitching together of the elastic to the front edge and the back seam, the only other stitching is around the edges of the rectangular material itself, for a neater finish.

12. A headscarf which is not puffed up at its crown thus eliminating a puffy appearance and, by virtue of its expandable elasticated back seam, adapts to the need for stretchiness when this arises, as when there is an abundance of hair or when rollers are being worn.

13. A headscarf which, by virtue of its elasticated back seam, eliminates extra slack at the back of the scarf, as becomes apparent when the tie-backs are tied together into a knot when using scarves without such a seam.

14. A headscarf on which its essential elastic additions are fully sewn onto the material, thus eliminating drag on the hair, or objects in it, from unattached elastic.

15.The headscarf is as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
