Abstract

Inductances-Electric inductance coils, such as self-supporting wireless tuning-in coils, comprise a number of layers of wire formed as helices of spaced turns all progressing in the same direction, the wire, at the end of each layer, being twisted round a pin at the edge thereof, taversed across the layer and twisted round a second pin at the other edge at the starting point of the next layer and the pins being subsequently removed. The coil may be wound on a former 1 of paper, fibre, &c. mounted on a mandrel 2 receiving the removable pins 3, 3' in a line parallel to the axis of the mandrel. The layers may be separated by shellaced paper 6. When the final layer has been wound, the wire is brought back to the pin 3 and turned under a layer and twisted to hold it in position. After the final layer has been covered with paper, the coil may be removed from the mandrel by removing the pins and collapsing the mandrel, and is dried, bound with tape, and impregnated or varnished. A plug terminal may be attached bv binding wires through holes in the terminal, the wires being covered with tape.
