Abstract

An anti drink spiking lid comprises a flat recessed central circular body 102 with a raised outer section 103 onto which is added a thin flexible section 104 with a flexible but reinforced ridge 106, which allows the lid to engage a lip of containers of various sizes and thicknesses and prevent noxious substances such as 'date rape' drugs being placed inside the container.

Description

Anti Drink Spiking Lid This invention relates to an Anti Drink Spiking
Lid, which may be used in any location. The lid is placed on drinks containers, most probably glasses, and prevents illicit substances being placed inside the container. More recently there have been considerable problems with members of the public in licensed premises have illicit drugs including Rohypnol (flunitrazepam) and GHB (Gamma Hexa Butyrate) placed in their drinks. These are commonly known as "Date Rape" drugs and are used by the perpetrator to render the victim insensible, with the sole intention of committing serious sexual offences or other crimes of violence. These drugs affect the memory and often the victim has no recollection of what has taken place.

Lids for containers are well known and are invariably used to make sure that what is inside the container is kept fresh, the seal is watertight or to stop spilling etc. They are normally rigid structures especially around the outer circumference and are limited to fit specific sized containers and are not normally concerned about the substances outside the vessel. This invention has a very flexible outer rim unlike any other lid, specifically allowing it to fit over misshapen receptacles, and allowing it to fit over different size glasses. The considerable movement of the outside rim also allows the lid to fit same size glasses but with large differences in the thickness of the walls. Its sole purpose is to prevent unwanted substances being placed with ease into the vessel and is therefore not concerned about what is in the vessel. There are a large variety of drinking vessels in licensed premises and many have different sizes even for the same volume vessel -the inventions elasticity allows it to fit the maximum available glasses. It is not suggested that the invention will prevent "Date Rape" but will make the commission of the offences far more difficult.

Brief Description of Drawings

FIG. I is a cross section of a standard vessel with the Anti Drink Spiking Lid attached.

FIG. 2 is a cross section of a larger vessel than the normal fit for Anti Drink Spiking Lid showing the flexible adaptability of the outer container engagement lip.

Detailed Description

The present invention is directed at Anti Drink Spiking Lids.

FIG. 1 is a cross section of a drinking vessel 100 and an Anti Drink Spiking Lid 101 in its entirety. The receptacle 100 will contain beverages obtainable in licensed premises and/or premises which provide liquid for consumption. It is most likely that the container 100 will be glass, but may be plastic or other suitable material for retaining liquid. In the illustration the container 100 is similar in size to that of the Anti Drink Spiking Lid 101. The lid 101 has a central recess 102 which leads to an outer raised section 103. The outer raised section lO3in turn is attached to a second recess 104. This second recess 104 is attached to outer container engagement lip 105.

On the outer container engagement lip 105, attached on the inside is a flexible and reinforced ridge 106 semi-circular in shape which affords contact with the vessel 100.

The sections of the lid 102, 103, and 105 are made from thicker material than that of recess 104. The thin layer of recess 104 is strong but very flexible. This allows great but controlled movement of the outer container engagement lip 105 to adapt to different size glasses, different thicknesses of the vessels walls, and adjust faults/defects/abnormalities. The flexible reinforced ridge 106 is set protruding on the inside of the engagement lip 105 and does not diminish the ability of the outer edge of the lid 101 to extend to fit different size vessels. The ridge 106 makes contact with the outer walls of the container and allows the lid 101 to fit snugly whether the outside of the vessel has a dimpled or smooth surface. It is not the purpose of ridgel06 to give a watertight or airtight seal on the containment vessel only to fit over the lips and effectively prevent anything from being placed in the vessel without the owner being aware. It is therefore imperative that when the owner wishes to take a drink he/she may remove the lid 101 easily and replace it easily. This is enabled by the initial overall flexibility of the lid 101 and the enhanced but controlled movement ability of outer container engagement lip 105 allowed by the thin but strong layer of recess 104.

FIG. 2 is a cross section of a drinking vessel 100 and an Anti Drink Spiking Lid 101 showing the degree of movement of the outer engagement lip 105 made possible by thin flexible layer of 104. It can be seen that the engagement lip 105 may extend outwards at least 45 degrees from the perpendicular and the flexible ridge 106 allows contact with the container gripping the surface.

FIG. 3 is a plan view of Lid 101.

FIG. 4 is a section view of the outer engagement lip 105 with ridge 106 and the thin flexible recess 104 showing how the flexibility of lip 105 is greatly extended but will fit snugly on the container vessel. The lip 105 would normally be at the perpendicular but can easily reach 45 degrees to accommodate larger vessels.

Claims (1)

  1.
Claims 1. An Anti Drink Spiking Lid, comprising; a fiat recessed
central circular body with a raised outer section onto which is added a thin flexible section with a flexible but reinforced ridge, allows the outer lip to engage the lip of containers of various sizes and thicknesses and prevent noxious substances to be placed inside the container.

2. The Anti Drink Spiking Lid of claim 1 is defined by the thin flexible outer section which allows the connected outer container engagement lip to move and adjust to various wall thicknesses of containers.

3. The Anti Drink Spiking Lid of claim I is defined by the thin flexible outer section which allows the connected outer container engagement lip to move and adjust to fit vessels of different sizes.

4. The Anti Drink Spiking Lid of claim 1 is defined by the thin flexible outer section which allows the connected outer container engagement lip to move and adjust to fit vessels that are not completely symmetrical and have faults or may even be elliptical.

5. The Anti Drink Spiking Lid as defined by claim 1 does not have any openings, air holes, straw holes and is made from flexible, durable material, not susceptible to cracking or otherwise breaking thus not allow noxious substances inside the vessel.

6. The flexible but reinforced ridge as claimed in claim I attached to the inside of the container engagement lip allows snug fitting to the standard container outer surfaces 7. The flexible and reinforced ridge of claim 6 is semi-circular in shape which allows contact on different shapes of vessels including different wall thickness, dependant on the angle of outer container engagement lip and within the parameters of the invention.

8. The flexible and reinforced ridge of claim 6 is semi-circular in shape which allows contact on the outside edge of the container and allows the invention to fit vessels of different sizes within the parameters of the invention.

9. The flexible and reinforced ridge of claim 6 is semi-circular in shape which allows contact on the outside edge of the container and allows the invention to fit vessels that are not completely symmetrical and have faults or may even be elliptical.

1O.The Anti Drink Spiking Lid is defined by not allowing drugs and noxious substances into the container and is not concerned about what is already in the container.

I I.An Anti Drink Spiking Lid as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made of metal, plastics material or wood or a combination of these materials.

12.An Anti Drink Spiking Lid substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
