Abstract

A detachable net that attaches to the inside of a landing net. The net comprises side attachments 1 and end attachments 3 and 5. Sides 6 are made from a fish-safe material and the base section 2 is made from a fast drainage material. Zip 4 enables easy access to the inside of the inner net to access fish. There may also be handles 7 for easy carrying and weighing of fish.

Description

I

Fishing Inner Net This invention relates to a fishing inner net.

When either course or freshwater fishing, fish are normally caught by hooking a fish and then manoeuvring the fish, towards the river bank, where a landing net is used to get the fish out of the water.

The landing net is awkward to manoeuvre and needs to be carried over to an unhooking mat to unhook the fish which is still attached to the line and the fishing rod. The fish is handled out of the landing net and onto the unhooking mat to be released. If the fish is to be weighed the fisherman then lifts the fish off the unhooking mat and into a sling and then may remove it from the sling to hold it for a photograph before returning the fish to the water.

This results in a lot of unnecessary handling of the fish which may damage the fish and spread disease and some anglers do not like handling fish. So the less handling there is, the better it is for the fish and angler.

To overcome the problem of over-handling fish, the present invention proposes a detachable net which attaches inside a landing net. This means that when a fish is manoeuvred into a landing net it is also within the detachable inner net. The inner net can be lifted out of the landing net and more easily placed onto an unhooking mat.

The fish can be unhooked while still in the inner net, the fish can also be weighed without needing to transfer the fish into a separate weighing sling. The fish can then be released from the inner net back into the water.

The advantage of this is that the fish can be landed, unhooked, weighed and released without handling the fish, unless a photo of the angler holding the fish is required.

Preferably the inner net will fit within most available landing nets.

Preferably the inner net will have a netted section to allow quick drainage.

Preferably one edge of the inner net will have a zip for easy access to fish for unhooking.

Preferably the connection of the inner net to the landing net will be universal and fit most landing nets with I or more connectors on each side.

Preferably the inner net has handles on each side for easy carrying and weighing of fish.

An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows an aerial view of an inner net.

Figure 2 shows a side view of an inner net.

Figure 3 shows an aerial view of an inner net attached to a landing net.

Figure 4 shows a side view of an inner net attached to a landing net. The netting of the landing net is not shown to make it easier to see the inner net.

The sides 6 of the inner net are made from a fish-safe material with a base section 2 made from a netting material or other fast drainage material. Seam 4 includes a zip for easy access to the fish inside the inner net. The connecting points 1 that attach the inner net to the landing net 8 could be clips, hook and loop fasters, hooks, string ties, toggles, magnetic clips, buckles or some other material that allows the inner net to be attached to the various designs of landing nets 8. They may also be a coloured or phosphors material so they glow in the dark.

The additional connecting points 3 are the top half of press studs and 5 are the bottom halves of the press studs. Other forms of attachment could be used like clips, hook and loop fasters, hooks, string ties, toggles, magnetic clips, buckles or some other material that allows the inner net to be attached to the end section of various designs of landing nets 8 in order to prevent the fish from slipping between the landing 8 and the inner net. Handles 7 are on two sides of the inner net enabling it to be carried and used to weigh fish.
