Abstract
A ventilated mattress has an apertured, reticulated or net like structure and is made from foam, rubber or a mixture thereof. The mattress can have one or more sections and interchangeable layers and inserts. The mattress, layer or insert has cut out areas D into which vibrating, soothing, cooling or warming devices can be inserted and removed when necessary. There is also a cut out area E into which water-absorbent material can be placed to soak up vomit, urine and excreta. The mattress may have additional air channels B for extra air circulation. The mattress is particularly useful for babies and the elderly and infirm.
Description

Improvements relating to the air permeability and user benefits of
mattresses.

This invention shows that by making a mattress from foam or rubber, or mixture, which is of a reticulated or net-like structure, or which has been pierced with many ventilation holes, allows better air circulation to the user.

(See fig. 1) This invention also shows that by making this mattress in one section or more, with variable inserts, allows the user more comfort, therapeutic and relaxation benefits. (See fig. 2).

This invention shows that by providing cut out areas within the mattress or inserts, allows devices that vibrate, soothe, warm or cool, to be placed by the user, into these areas, to provide comfort, therapeutic and relaxation benefits.

These devices can be easily removed by the user if required.

This invention would greatly benefit babies, allowing them to sleep on surfaces, which would not cause suffocation by air starvation or accumulation of vomit, urine or excreta. By also providing air channels (See B in Figs I and 2), which could be in the form of grooves or ripples or arches, it allows the user an even better chance of breathing well when lying on such surfaces.

This invention would also greatly benefit babies by allowing a virtually silent, gently vibrating device to be placed into the insert or mattress (See X in Fig.3) to give them a feeling of movement or rocking, as felt perhaps in The mother's womb. This vibrating device could be controlled remotely and be of an electrical and, or, mechanical nature.

This invention, by allowing a pre-heated unit (See Y in Fig 3) made from a polymer or rubber base, containing heat retaining granules, to be placed into the cut-out areas of mattress or insert, enables the user to safely feel warm without the chance of being burned.

This invention would also allow widely available hot or cold gel packs to be used within the cut out areas. l'hese cut out areas can vary in size and shape.
