Abstract

A shotgun support device supports a shotgun in an upright position, with the barrels stopped or closed by a portion of the support 1 which engages the gun at the mouths of the barrels. The device may also feature a frame 3 and rubber foot assembly 4 so that the gun can be rested in a free standing manner against a vertical surface 5.

Page 1 Shotgun Support This invention relates to a device for supporting a
shotgun against a fixed surface.
When a shotgun has been assembled, perhaps from a vehicle, the user now needs to lean his gun against a surface or place it back into the vehicle. Also whilst using the shotgun on a range, at times, it needs to be leant against an object whilst other activities are being addressed.
This device provides support to the shotgun on any fixed surface i.e. side of a car, shooting layout, a tree etc. and is also small enough to fit in a garment pocket for portability and use at any time. This device is also designed to prevent damage to the shotgun by providing stability to the shotgun if accidentally knocked away from the surface.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the device prior to fitting to the shotgun.
Figure 2 shows the device fitted to the shotgun and leant against a fixed surface.
In figure 1 the device is ready for use being easily portable and simple to assemble onto the barrels (2).
The device consists of two parts, a plastic moulding (3) and two off rubber feet (4). To use the device, firstly the two large cylindrical bosses (1) are slid into the barrels (2) of the shotgun, two bosses (1) are used to give stability in all directions and to prevent the shotgun rotating in the final position.
The shotgun is then leant against a fixed surface (5), the rubber feet (4) give protection to the surface and also to help stop lateral movement in its final position.
When the shotgun is required to be moved both parts are lifted away from the surface (5) and the device is removed clear of the barrels (2), this can then be placed in the pocket of a garment for transportation.

  1. Page 2 Claims 1. A shotgun support device to hold a shotgun in an upright
    closed position against a fixed surface and to prevent damage to the shotgun or surface, which it has been leant against.
  2. 2. A shotgun support device according to claim 1, in which the cushioning and stability effect against the fixed surface is provided by rubber feet, which are mounted horizontal to the surface at an optimum distance.
  3. 3. A shotgun support device according to claim 1, in which the locating bosses for the barrels are provided at a distance and designed as such to facilitate common barrel sizes.
  4. 4. A shotgun support device according to claim 1, in which the device is totally portable when not in use and is of a size so as to fit into the pocket of a garment.
