Abstract

243,143. Barrie, D. G. E., and Enterprise Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Oct. 30, 1924. Po w d e r e d resistances.- Powdered carbon &c. is contained in a tube 7 of rubber or other resilient insulating or insulatable material closed at the end by flanged conducting plugs 8, one of which may carry a projecting point 22. The plugs 8 may be screw-threaded, roughened, milled, or serrated where they enter the rubber tube 7 to increase the grip. The cartridge so formed is inserted into a sleeve 12 of ebonite &c. closed at one end bv a brass bush 13 through which passes a screwed stem 18 provided with a knob 19. The other end of the sleeve 12 is closed by a flanged brass plug 20, between which and the end of the stem 18 the resistance unit is variably compressed. Insulated spring means mav be provided to ensure recovery of the element when the pressure is released.
