Abstract

Block and brick cutting apparatus comprises a housing 2 in which a tool 7 with a cutting disc 8 is located. The housing 2 has a lidded aperture 2A through which a cutting bed 4 is movable into and out of the housing 2 for delivery and removal of a workpiece 5 to the cutting disc 8. The tool 7 is supported in the housing 2 by clamping one or more of its handles and is controlled from outside the housing 2 by a knob and cable linkage means 10 and 10A. The apparatus includes wheels 12 and a hitch 13 to enable it to be towed behind a vehicle, channels 15A to allow it to be moved by a forklift and folding legs 14 to raise the level of the housing 2 when in use. The housing 2 further comprises dust collection means 16.

Description

Title: Cutting Apparatus The present invention relates to a cutting
apparatus, especially for building materials such as masonry, e.g. blocks and bricks.
It is well known to use a cutting disc to cut blocks. A common example of this is when laying a drive using block paving. When laying a drive, blocks often need to be cut in half or at an angle. Workers often hold a block by standing on the block and then cut the block with a cutting disc tool. This can be very dangerous resulting the bodily injury by the tool, and is also labour intensive.
The invention seeks to provide a cutter to avoid this difficulty.
According to the present invention there is provided a cutting apparatus comprising: a) a housing having an aperture to receive a building material component.
h) a cutting bed in the housing to support the component.
C) support means to hold a tool with a cutting disc to work on the component, and d) linkage means to control the tool from outside the housing.
Preferably a dust collection device is connected to the housing to collect dust created by work on ihe component.
Preferably the cutting bed moves out of the housing aperture to receive a component and moves into the housing to deliver the component to the cutting disc. The cutting bed may include a tray on sliders.
Preferably the housing aperture includes a removable lid.
Preferably the support means is adapted to engage one or more handles on the tool.
Preferably the cutting bed is adapted to support a rectangular block.
Preferably the cutting bed is adapted to support a component at varying angles to the cutting disc.
In one embodiment the housing includes wheels for moving the apparatus. The housing may include a tow hitch to engage a towing device on a vehicle.
In one embodiment the housing includes folding legs to raise the level of the housing when in use.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a perspective view.
Reterrin to the drawing there is shon a cutting apparatus I Apparatus I has a housing 2 having an aperture 2A to receive a building material component.
Aperture 2A can be open and closed by a lid 3 hinged to the housing 2.
A cuffing bed is provided in the housing in the form of a tray 4 on sliders 4A. Tray 4 is adapted to support a building component such as a rectangular block 5. A releasable clamp 6 is provided to hold the block 5 on the tray 4 at any desired angle. The cutting bed tray 4 moves in and out of the housing aperture 2A. Tray 4 has a slot 4B therein.
A cutting tool 7 is provided with a cutting disc 8. Tool 7 is supported in the housing 1 by support means in the form of clamps 9 attached to the tool handle. Linkage means in the form of knob 10 and cable 1 OA controls the tool 7 from outside the housing. An access hatch 11 is also provided to start and service the tool 7.
Housing 2 includes wheels 12 for moving the apparatus. The housing 2 also includes a tow hitch 13 to engage a towing device, such as a tow ball, on a vehicle.
Housing 2 also includes folding legs 14 to raise the level of the housing. e.g. to generally waist height, when in use. Channels 15A,l5B may also be provided to lift the apparatus I on a fbrk lift.
In use tray 4 is first moved out of aperture 2A on sliders 4A. Block 5 is placed ri tray 4 and clamped thereto at a desired angle by clamp 6. Tray 4 is then moved back into the housing to deliver block 5 to the cutting disc to cut the block. En this respect disc 8 can enter slot 4B in tray 4. Lid 3 may he closed hilst the block is being cut A dust collection device 16 is connected to the housing to collect dust created when block 5 is cut.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
It is envisaged that the apparatus I could be sold without the tool 7 and be adapted to receive a standard cutting tool of a type well known in the art.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing form the scope of the present invention.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM 1 The cutting apparatus(invention) cut's all types of bricks,Blocks, Tile's, Paving slab's or Flag's, useing a bench saw method of cutting-through the building/paving material's also you can swoop the cutting method- to a diamond disc. Also cut most roofing tiles.
    CLAIM 2 All the cutting of materials is done in side of the device, this will stop workers useing the cutter getting any injury's by the tool.
    CLAIM3 The tradianol methods of cutting a paving block, brick or slab- is to cut one at a time. This device will inable many to be cut at once, this means it save's a lot of time and means the job get's done in 1/2 the time.
    CLA1M4 The invention will be a 1St of it's kind fitted with a dust collection device which is self contained this will stop all the dust and allow the dust to be recycled-also stop the dust hazard's. Complete dust extraction.
    CLAIMS The invention will be portable so it can be monted on a scaffold or on a roof or inside a building also monted with a trailer so it can be towed by any vecicale/car. Total mobility.
    CLAIM6 The invention will have it's own unique clamping or holding device incorperated inside the machine.
    CLAIM7 The invention/machine will opperate fully altermatic,powered by a genorator or main's electricty
