Abstract
An apron for use when bathing an infant comprises a waterproof backing layer with an absorbent facing layer. The absorbent facing layer may be detachably attached to the waterproof layer via releasable fasteners. The apron may have absorbent side pieces b that is secured across the chest of the apron via releasable fasteners c, d. Prior to lifting an infant from the bath the side pieces are released and may be wrapped around the infant once they have been lifted from the bath. A single tie a threaded though the sides of the apron and around the neck of the wearer forms the adjustable fastener. The apron may have pockets e, (f, Fig 4) on the rear of the apron to and pockets on the absorbent facing layer to store infant toiletries and store jewellery, the pockets on the rear of the apron may be waterproof.
Description
Bath Apron
Background
This invention relates to a waterproof apron.
As any parent knows, bath-time for infants can be very wet and messy. The parent often gets soaked during bath-time, and removing the infant from the bath and into a dry towel can be tricky.
Statement of Invention
To make bath-time easier, the present invention is an apron for use when bathing an infant, comprising a water-impermeable, flexible backing layer, with an absorbent facing layer and absorbent side pieces.
Advantages The bath apron ensures the parent remains dry.
Preferably, the apron has adjustable tie-fastening, enabling a good fit for any size parent.
Preferably, the apron has absorbent side pieces to wrap around the wet infant.
Preferably, the apron has pockets; waterproof on the backing layer for a watch / jewellery, and large open pockets on the front layer for infant toiletries.
Introduction to Drawings
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: - figure 1 shows the facing side of the apron with side pieces opened out flat - figure 2 shows how the side pieces fasten across the chest - figure 3 shows the apron with side pieces fastened across the chest - figure 4 shows the back of the apron and the use of the adjustable tie fastening - figure 5 shows a basic version of the apron, without absorbent side pieces Page 1 of4
Detailed Description
A dual-layer apron, comprising a water-impermeable, flexible backing layer fastened to an absorbent facing layer and including absorbent side pieces b. Fastening of the two layers could be by stitching, ting a non-separating apron, or by a semi- permanent method such as Velcror press studs, enabling the two layers of the apron to be detached for washing purposes.
A single tie a, threaded through the top sides of the apron and around the neck, forms the fastening. Once the neck part of the tie is over the head of the parent, each end of the tie is pulled down and back, to position the apron high up on the front of the body, and tied behind the back, securing the apron (use figure 4).
During bathing of the infant, the absorbent side pieces b are secured across the chest by use of ties, press studs, hooks, buttons, Velcro, or other such methods c, d, along the vertical edge of the side pieces (use figure 3). Before lifting the infant from the bath, these fastenings are freed. After lifting the infant from the bath, these additional pieces are then wrapped around the infant.
A small pocketf in the backing layer, made of the same water impermeable material, offers a safe place for jewellery of the parent whilst bathing their infant.
A larger pocket or pockets e in the facing layer allows storage space for any necessary toiletries Page 2 of 4
