Abstract
242,986. Metallbank und Metallurgische Ges. Akt.-Ges. Nov. 12, 1924, [Convention date]. Purifiers; purifier waste, revivifying. - In regenerating adsorption media, such as activated carbon or gels, the medium is heated in shaftlike containers or tubular systems and the substances set free are collected in a chamber or chambers situated in the mass of the medium, and are discharged from the regenerating device, before coming into contact with adjacent cooler layers of the medium, through one or more offtakes communicating with the collecting chamber or chambers. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the receptacle a, which may be used both for adsorption and regeneration, is provided with collecting chambers f<1> - - f<3> arranged at different levels in the adsorption medium b. The gases set free on heating the receptacle a pass from the collecting chambers to a condenser h through conduits g<1> - - g<3>. The removal of the adsorbed substances may be accelerated by means of scavenging agents in the form of inert gases. which are supplied to the regenerating device at different levels. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, the adsorption medium is passed continuously or intermittently from a hopper k through the regenerating device which is surrounded by a heating chamber m. The scavenging agent is introduced through pipes e<1> - - e<3> and distributors c<1> - - c<3>, the gases set free being withdrawn through collecting chambers, which may communicate with separate condensers h<1>, h<2> when fractions corresponding to different boiling points are desired. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, the scavenging agent is recovered and employed in a cycle. The adsorption medium passes from a hopper k through a slide n into the regenerating chamber, which consists mainly of aggregates of tubes arranged in a heated chamber. The substances set free in the lower and hotter part of the tubular system rise to collecting chambers f connected to the condenser h through a conduit g. The scavenging agent is introduced through distributing chambers c<1>, c<2>, and after passing through the condenser h, is returned to the regenerating apparatus by means of a blower 1. The scavenging gas may be generated in an internal-combustion engine o which at the same time drives the fresh air blast required for the combustion of the heating agent and also drives the scavenging circuit. Losses in the scavenging circuit are made up by introducing fresh quantities of explosion gases into the circuit through a washer q.
