Abstract

A car radio tester comprises a box 4 and light emitting diodes (LED) that can indicate faults of wiring connection to speakers 14,16,26,28, negative supply 18, permanent supply 22 accessory supply 20 and illumination 24. The radio testing apparatus may also comprise a socket 8 to mate with a plug (fig 3,10) of the vehicle wiring loom and the socket may be an ISO socket. The circuit of the tester may comprise diodes (fig 4, D1,D2,D3,D4) to enable power to be drawn from either of an accessory supply or a permanent supply and resistors (fig 4, 100 ohm) in series with speakers and LEDs. When a LED illuminates it indicates a good circuit.

Description

Car radio power supply and speaker tester.
This invention relates to a car radio power supply and speaker tester, when diagnosing car radios it is a must to firstly check the power supplies and / or speakers(for open circuit)before suspecting the car radio is at fault. When fitting a car radio,again it is a must to check the speakers and power supplies as faults could be present and cause a fault to the new radio. A normal scenario would be to probe' or meter' the plugs to find faults.
To cut time in fitting or diagnosing car radios, this self contained box will test everything(FR speaker,FL speaker,RL speaker,RR speaker,Negative supply,permanent supply,accessory supply and illumination) a car radio needs to function by showing the test results via LED's on a easy to read panel,this tester will also help in eliminating intermittent faults by keeping a permanent test on the speakers and power supplies whilst the technician checks the faulty components on the vehicle.
With this box being such a small self contained device it is easy to use and very portable and robust.It also has an easy to read display panel with clear description as to what device is being tested and what is good/faulty.With all components in the tester being cheap and easily accessahie the tester is cheap and easy to make.
An example of the invention will be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
-figure 1 shows the car radio power supply and speaker tester.
-figure 2 shows an example of how the tester will be used.
-figure 3 (10) shows the speaker and power supply plugs(1S0) which are to be tested and are typical in most uk cars.
-figure 4 shows the schematic diagram of the tester.
This invention consists of 8 LED's, 4 for speaker testing and 4 for power supply testing(see figure 1). The speaker testing part has a lOOohm resistor in series with each speaker(when connected)and an LEDto complete the circuit, when the speaker has continuity the LED illuminates showing a good circuit therefor a good speaker, if the LED fails to illuminate then the circuit is faulty and needs closer investigation. The supply for the speaker test comes from 2 diodes,one from the permanent supply and one from accessory supply so if one supply is missing then the other supply can test the speakers.The power supply LED's each have a lOOohm resistor in series and a common negative to show relevent supply losses and illumination switch

  1. Claims 1/ A self contained box for testing car radio speaker and power
    supplys needing no external power supplies.
    2/ As claim 1 is fitted with B LED's showing each component that is being tested.
    3/ As claim 2 has an ISO socket fitted on the front face of the box.
