Abstract
The scaffolding measuring device aid consists of two parts. The first is to solely measure set heights of handrails and ledgers which are fixed to standards. The second measuring aid is used solely to measure board widths across ledger tubes. Each measuring aid is a free standing, self contained unit to ensure accurate and consistent measuring each time it used. Each aid comprises a square outer tube slidably receiving a square inner tube there being spaced apart holes in the inner tube to receive a pin which passes through a hole in the outer tube. Figure 5 shows the device for use in measuring board widths across ledger tubes.
Description
Scaffolding Erection Aid
Description
The invention, relates to two meauring devices to accurately and consistently gauge the height and widths of conventional tube and fitting scaffolding. The invention can be used for both a self supporting freestanding structure and those which are fixed to existing structures.
onventionai scaffolding erection by standard, ledger and transom tubes can. lead to difficulties of inaccurate and inconsIstent measurement-S by manual application, in terms of time and man power required to measure, level and fix tubes together to Health and Safety requirements. To overcome these difficulties associated with current methods, the Invention can reduce the manpower requixeinezit as appropriate under Health & Safety Regulations, but more particularly reduce the time consuming elements of inaccurate and inconsistent manual measurements.
The invention allows a user to adjust the settings according to the structure being worked on and ensures these distances are used each time. The measuring devices for both board widths and heights of ledgers and handrails consist of a two part assembly.
This assembly is constructed from square rigid ouier tubing, with inner retractable and adjustable members. These can ie manufactured from a variety materials such as mild steel, rigid plastic, stainless box section or round tubing. The principle is the same regardless of construction material.
Drawings A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the front, side and end elevatioii of the inner section of the horizontal device.
Figure 2 shows the front, side and end elevations of the outer section of the horizontal device.
Figure 3 shows the front and side elevations of the imter section 01 the vertical device.
tigure 4 shows the front and side elevations of the outer section of the vertical device.
Figure 5 shows the front and side elevations of the completed assembly for the horizontal device.
Figure 6 shows the front and side elevations of the completed assembly for the vertical device.
Figure 7 shows the plan view of the completed assembly (horizontal device) in use.
Figure 8 shows the front and side elevation of the completed assembly (vertical device) in use.
As shown in Figure 1. the inner part of the horizontal device consists of a square section tube 1, with a small piece of angled material bonded to one end 2. A series of holes 3 provide a number of positions that the device can be set to when inserted into the outer tube 7. This assembly is shown in Figure 5.
The outer section of the horizontal device shown in Figure 2. also consists of a square section of tubing 7, with a piece of angled material bonded to the opposing end 2. A nut 6 is bonded to the outer tubiig and has a chain attached 5, which retains an anti- luce locking device 4. This anti-luce locates with the holes 3 to allow the distance to be set.
Figure 3. illustrates the inner section of the vertical device. This is again constructed from a length of square cross section tubing 11, drilled with a series of holes 3 to allow the distance to be fixed with the anti-luce locking device 4. A nut 9 is bonded to the tube and which supports a turned roller 10, itself retained by a bolt 8.
Figure 4. shows the corresponding outer part for the vertical device. Two rollers 10 are bolted with a fixing mechanini incorporating a nut 9 bonded t the tube and bolt 8. The vertical positions of these rollers correspond to the heights for horizontal handrails. Another antiluce 4 is attached which allows the inner tube position to be fixed. An additional foot' 12 allows the device to be rested easily and securely on the scaffolding tube below.
Figure 5. shows the completed assembly for the horizontal device. The inner section has been fixed into the outer section and the position locked by the antiluce device. It is important to note the relative orientation such that the two angle pieces 2 are left/right handed..
Figure 6. shows the completed assembly for the vertical device. The inner section has been fixed into the outer section and the position locked by the antiluce device. Again the orientation has been shown as it is intended, with the rollers positioned on the same side.
Usage of the horizontal device, is illustrated in Figure 7. It clearly shows how the device rests across the scaffolding bars and keeps the distance between them constant.
The device can easily slide along them to check consistency.
Figure 8. shows how the vertical device is used to set the distances between the floor scaffold, the two handrails and to then set the height of the next level floor scaffold.
Again the device can easily slide along the rails to ensure consistency of separation.
