Abstract

An umbrella, comprising a canopy mounted on a shaft or pole, in which the shaft is hinged to allow the canopy to be tilted. The hinge may be in the form of a pivot allowing movement in only one plane, or in the form of a ball and socket joint. The ball and socket joint allows movement in all planes and allows the canopy to be swivelled as well as tilted. The tilting of the canopy in a garden umbrella allows the umbrella to be moved to block out the rays of the sun.

Description

Blocking Umbrella This invention relates to a tilting umbrella.
When sitting under an umbrella the sun moves leaving some people in the shade and others in direct sunlight.
To overcome this, the present invention uses a rotating or tilting joint to move the umbrella to block the sun.
The tilting umbrella will protect people from the sun and stop them getting burnt, blinded with rays and protect the skin.
The invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 shows an upright garden umbrella opened.
Fig. 2 shows a tilted garden umbrella blocking the sun from one direction.
Fig. 3 shows a tilted garden umbrella blocking sun from another direction.
Fig. 4 shows the ball joint which tilts roughly 45 degrees and swivels 360 degrees and will be attached to the upper part of the pole.
Fig. 5 shows a hinge that could be used that will tilt the umbrella roughly 45 degrees in two directions.
A ball joint or hinge fig. 4 and fig 5 is fitted to pole of the umbrella which doesn't block the lifting mechanism of the umbrella by means of a metal sheath that is the same size as the pole fig. 6. Once up the umbrella can be tilted to block the sun from whichever direction it is coming from.
