Abstract

A modular audio system includes a plurality of discrete units 5, 6, 7, 8 which can be stacked to form structures in a variety of shapes and sizes. The units may be connected by multi pole connectors (1) rather than by wires, for example D-shape connectors may be used. The units may be mains electricity or battery powered and may accept input from portable music devices. The individual units may be produced in any tessellating shape and may include amplifier, light, speaker, audio input and radio modules.

Description

Stereo Units I This invention relates to a modular stereo system which
allows the stereo to be manipulated into a variety of shapes and sizes to enable it to fix into any space.
The use of stereos are restricted due to their size and their shape. They also have unsightly leads connecting each unit together; these are often very confusing and complicated for some people to understand and install.
To over come this, the present invention proposes modular units which can be constructed in any shape or form without the need for interconnecting leads. The basic stereo will have a series of modular units, including an amplifier, speaker and audio input box; additional unit could be added at a further date.
The boxes could be connected using multiple D connectors or other similar multiple connectors. The use of the connectors instead of leads enables more design flexibility.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with references to accompanying 4 pages of drawings.
Figure 1 and 2 Shows a typical unit 4 (with speaker front) On four sides (not front or back) are multiple connectors 1.
The units are spaced out by grommets 2.
Each modular unit follows this principle although with a different function.
Figure 3 Shows an array of six units in one of the many configurations. Speaker unit 5, audio input units 6 (for direct connection to MP3 and Mini disk players or similar small portable Sound systems), amplifier unit 7, night light unit 8 and optional base unit 9.
Figure 4 Shows Aerial view of figure 3 Figure 5 Shows a different layout from figure 3 and demonstrates the versatility of my design.
Figure 6 Shows a different layout from figure 5 and 3 Figure 7 Shows an aerial view of figure 6 The units are connected together using a multipole connection 1. The boxes have grommet spacers 2 to prevent them from wobbling. Each unit has a front panel 3.
The connectors are connected by ribbon cable within the box.
This design would work with any tessellating shape.
