Abstract

A skirting board includes a sculpted face 1, 3 which is mounted to a fixing plate 2 as shown, permitting height adjustment or removal of the skirting board, which may be of plastics, wood or metal.

Description

Floating Skirting Board The Invention relates to a skirting board of the type which includes a fixing plate and detachable, adjustable face which would provide an alternative to traditional solid skirting boards. Such boards are well known, but suffer the disadvantage that when flooring or room decoration is changed, they require removing fully and are easily damaged. Interior . room painting, for example would be made simpler using the method of complete removal and simple reattachment of the skirting. The skirting would accommodate changes in flooring material and therefore flooring height, using the option of adjusting the height position. Preferably the skirting is made of wood or plastics material, but it may instead be made from metal to match the furniture of a room or from a combination of these materials. An object of this invention is to reduce the damage to existing works during refurbishment, and to hasten the process. The aesthetic appearance of solid skirting board is authenticated using a sculpted skirting face. Accordingly, the invention provides a skirting board including a detachable sculpted face, secured to the wall with a tongue, slotted into the recess between the top of the fixing plate and the wall. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be'described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 - Shows a section view of the whole skirting board. Figure 2 - Is a section showing only the fixing plate. Figure 3 - Is a face view showing only the fixing plate. Figure 4 - Is a section showing only the detachable face. As shown in figure 1 the skirting comprises of a fixing plate (Fig3) into which the sculpted face of the skirting (Fig 4) is slotted to fix. The fixing plate Fig 2 is formed so the tongue 1 will slot into the recess 4 and secure. The plate is pre-drilled 5 to enable simple installation. The sculpted face of the skirting board (Fig4) includes a tongue 1 which slots into the recess created by the fixing bracket 4 to secure itself. The face of the skirting board (Fig 4) includes a base support 3 in order to stabilise in the attached position. When the face (Fig4) is attached to the fixing bracket (Fig2), the skirting is secure. The face can be adjusted up or down, according to finished floor level. The face cover is easily removed to enable access or to accommodate redecoration. The fixing plate 2 is attached to a five meter wall, at one meter intervals using plugs and screws as required 5. The sculpted face of the skirting (Fig4) is then attached to the fixing plate (Fig2) by inserting the tongue 1 into recess 2. The height of the skirting can be altered by adjusting the depth of the tongue in the recess (Fig4) until finished floor level is reached.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims The skirting board including a detachable face attached to a wall mounted fixing plate so that the face can be completely detached for decoration purposes or its height adjusted to accommodate changes in floor level. A skirting as claimed in claim 1 with the fixing plate includes predrilled fixing holes. A skirting as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 where the fixing plate is shaped creating a cavity to accommodate the attachment of the face through inserting the tongue into the cavity created. A skirting as claimed in Claim 4 where the face is provided with a protruding tongue which engages the cavity created by the fixing plate when attached. A skirting as claimed in Claim 3 where the sculpted face has a base support to stabilise the face once attached. A skirting as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metal, plastics material or wood, or a combination of these materials.
