Abstract

A cap which is made during manufacture with a Closure 1 which is incorporated into the cap by a tamper evident strip 2 and tamper evident gap option 3 which provides security during manufacture and clear evidence in the cap or closure has been tampered after manufacture. The tamper evident strip may comprise of small pillars or a narrow strip of plastic along the length of the closure. A stopper foot 5 may be provided to hold the closure in an open position and a raised element 6 may retain the closure in a closed position. The container and cap would be suitable for dispensing condiments such as salt.

Description

TAMPER EVIDENT CLOSURE FOR A TUB OF POWDER OR LIQUID
The invention relates to a cap of the type which includes salt caps found on containers in supermarkets.
Caps of this type are well known but suffer from the disadvantage that the have to be assembled and/or closed and/or have label put over them and/or have a special tamper evident film put over them. This post- manufacturing process can be quite complex and expensive and also can detract from the appearance of the product. Problems have also been reported that post-manufacturing closure of caps is sometimes unsuccessful causing problems at fitting the cap to the container The object of this invention is to provide a single piece cap which may be manufactured in one operation in the closed position with a tearable strip which will reveal when the lid has been opened/tampered with. This makes the cap and closure a single piece until the closure is opened at which time it will only be attached by the hinge Accordingly, this invention provides a cap with an integral closure which incorporates a tearable strip and or turrets which is broken when the cap first opened. The closure may be re-closed many times.
Preferably the cap will be made of various grades of plastic but it may be made from any moulded material.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a view of the cap with the closure closed.
Figure 2 shows the cap with the closure open As shown in Figure 1, the cap incorporates an opening closure 1. The size of this closure is not important here - it could be wider or narrower than indicated. The invention is the Tamper Evident Strip 2 which comprises of either small pillars of plastic or a narrow strip of plastic along the length of the closure - allowing the cap to be effectively sealed.
The Tamper Evident Gap Option allows a narrow strip of pillars of material to be placed between the closure and the cap to effect a further seal at this point.
The Hinge 4 allows the closure to be opened many times. The design of the Tamper Evident Strips may vary to allow the closure to open progressively or to provide a seal.
Figure 2 shows the closure open with the tamper evident Strip 2 and Tamper Evident Gap 3 broken. The turrets are shown here on the closure but they may be retained on the cap.
It also shows a Stopper Foot feature 5 designed to hold the Closure open and a Raised Element 6 to hold it closed.

Claims (5)

1. A cap incorporating an opening closure which incorporates a tamper evident strip which is incorporated into the cap during manufacture making the Cap and Closure one fixed item until the closure is opened.
2. A cap as claimed in Claim 1 where the Tamper Evident Strip is a narrow band or series of turrets.
3. A cap claimed in any preceeding claim with more than one closure provided at least one closure incorporates a Tamper Evident Strip or part thereof
4. A cap claimed in any preceeding Claim made of plastic or other moulded material.
5. A cap substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings
