Abstract

An upright support rod 4 is attached to a base 5 on to which a container is lowered, with the support rod passing through a drainage hole in the base of the container. The support rod and its base may be secured to the surface on which it stands via holes in the base part 6 and 7. Once a container has been lowered into position, it may be additionally secured by the use of a securing clip and washer 9 at the base of the container before planting commences.

Description

I
PLANT and CONTAINER SUPPORT This invention relates to a support for containers and container grown plants. When plants are grown in containers, they can require securing to a support to remain in good shape.
However, the weight of the plant may distort the support, and in windy or exposed positions, containers and plants may blow down. In unprotected public areas, containers can easily be picked up and stolen.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes an upright support rod attached to a base, on to which a container is lowered, with the support rod passing through a drainage hole in the base of the container.
The weight on the base of the support from the container and its contents, will ensure that the upright support rod will not dislodge or move, thus giving maximum support to plants and container grown trees.
Preferably, the base of the support has holes through which the support stand can be secured to the surface on which it stands. This is an advantage when lightweight containers are used as on a roof top garden, or in windy and exposed positions. Securing of the base plate to the surface on which it stands, would increase stability and security.
Preferably, once the container has been lowered on to the secured rod and base plate, a retaining clip and washer may secure the container before planting takes place, thus increasing security and reducing the risk of theft.
The support and base may be produced in varying sizes and proportions, to suit all types of container and plant materials.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a container and plant being inadequately supported by a stick or cane placed inside the container.
Figure 2 shows the upright rod and its base secured to the surface on which it stands, having a container lowered on to it through a drainage hole in the base of the container.
Figure 3 shows the plant and container support in use, with the base secured to the surface on which it stands, and the container held in place with an optional securing clip and washer. The container is held securely, and the plant can be tied to the upright rod.
Figure 4 shows the plant and container support according to the invention.
An upright rod 4 attached to a base 5 which has holes 6 through which the support may be secured to the surface on which it stands. A securing clip and washer 9 may be used for additional security, once the container 2 has been lowered into position.
