Abstract
A bin comprises a main body the interior of which is separated into an upper and a lower chamber by a pivotable partition D, a rear wall of the main body including a door pivotable about a horizontal axle to allow insertion of material into the lower chamber. The top of the bin has a hinged lid, so that, upon inversion of the bin and opening of the lid, the upper chamber can be emptied through the top of the inverted bin and, upon subsequent pivotal movement of the partition, the lower chamber can be emptied through the upper chamber and the top of the inverted bin. The bin also comprises an auxiliary bin removably attached to a front wall of the main body by a hook arrangement E, F. The axle about which the rear door pivots is the axle of the ground-engagable wheels of a wheelie bin.
Description
INTRODUCTION TO THE SPLIT BIFi4
The split bin is based on the currant household wheelie bin, to comply with existing methods and machinery to do with waste disposal ie. refuse wagons and especially the mechanics involved with the hands free disposal mechanism at the rear of refuse wagons.
The split bin is different in its own mechanics, as it is split into three separate compartments, to allow easy disposal and collection of recydable waste along with normal household waste The bin, as a whole is split between two main compartments, one of 60% and one of 40%.
The 60% is the bottom compartment and the 40% is the top compartment. The top 40% is for normal household waste and the bottom 60% is for recyclable waste such as tin, plastic and cardboard, which is easily separated at recycling centres The capacities of the bin could easily be changed for example, 70%, 30% could be the capacity of the bin in the future.
which could easily be modified, by the simple adjustment of the bins master template to adjust the waste dividing flap to the appropriate percentage required.
The bin will have a door at the rear of the lower 60% section to allow easy access to deposit recyclable waste A lid at the top of the bin, is to allow easy access to deposit normal household waste in the 40% section The lid on the top of the bin is similar to co-existing bins issued as standard to householders across the country. The lid and the top section are also similar, due to the mechanics of existing hands free waste disposal units at the rear of the refuse wagons At the 6040% point of the bin, there is a rigid plastic flap on an axle, which rests on a shelf, which is a thicker moulding part of the bin, which is the main part of the chassis at the 60\40% point The axle for the waste dividing flap is at the rear of the bin at the 60\40% point This flap also extends fully open once the flap catch at the front of the bin at the 60\40% point is released, which allows recyclable waste to fall through unaided and unhampered into the refuse wagon, but when the flap is latched down on the shelf at the 6040% point, the waste in the top 40% of the bin can be extracted in the same manner with the same mechanics as when collecting recyclable waste, but with the dividing flap latched shut, it allows the waste not to mix, allowing the safe hands free motion of disposing of all household waste as they do today. But with planning and organisation with local authorities, this bin will encourage householders to split their waste, as laws exist to do so. They provide a facility for householders to split waste, therefore making it easier for local authorities to give warnings, Or enforce proper regulations to householders in the disposing of their waste. It also helps the householders to remove waste, which is normally hoarded until collection day. With this bin they can dispose of their waste from the house, until the capacity of the bin is exceeded.
Also the third compartment is a glass collection container which simply hooks behind a door or standing free. It stands at 500mm high x 400mm wide and 200mm deep, which is madeW the same material of the bin, with a simple hinged flap as a lid and handles moulded in either side at the top of the glass box. When the box is full of bottles it can be hung onto the front of the bin, where there is a plate moulded within the chassis of the bin at the front.
Again making the disposal of glass safe, clean and practical.
This bin would also increase the amount of household waste, collected in one refuse wagon filled to capacity, as only 40% will be collected out of each bin, therefor at the very least one refuse wagon could double the amount of properties collected in one full load.
It will cost the local authorities less to dispose of household waste, as less refuse wagons will need to dispose of their load at the tip. Local authorities will save money disposing of recyclable waste As the disposal of recyclable waste is becoming more sort after and there is financial rewards as well as material rewards to all concerned, as especially to all concerned with the protection of the environment, which is a responsibility we all have to take Wth this split bin t would encourage and enforce responsible waste management, which would be encouraged and promoted by the split bin.
This bin would also regain conformity within local authorities allowing collection of waste to be more cost effected, as at the moment the use of collection crews for glass, cardboard etc all with two or three crew and allocated vehicles, which is costly, unorganised and proving impractical to both the householders and local authorities.

Continuation of introduction
When using the split bin, a conventional refuse wagon, with its normal crew will be able to remove its normal waste, hands free, safe and clean, with the facilities provided by the split bin. All that will be needed; is to know when the normal waste and recyclable waste is going to be collected. All the waste is safely housed within the bin, so no longer will you have the elements or vermin soiling or blowing our recyclable waste across the streets, which was disposed of in plastic bags, boxes, and containers which was provided by our local authorities, which has no conformity, and with these systems in place, they seem to create there own problems. Down to the capacity of the collection, conformity of collection and the frailty of such items. Which in turn the currant items provided by the local authorities as mentioned earlier seems to unload their contents onto the street, before collection has commenced, due to the elements as mentioned earlier, and other factors.
The split bin stops all this, the split bin will contain all waste separately, safely, cleanly and will keep all household waste out of the household and into the bin Where as the present system forces householders to hoard recyclable waste, until collection day Which also forces the householders in the use of inpractable, uncoordinated systems of waste disposal, which will all be irradiated by the SPLIT BIN Page 2 of 2
DESCRIPTION OF SPLIT BIN (Pages 1 and 2(photos)
Sections "E "and "F" are shown on page "2", they show "E" which is showing a moulded elongated hook approx. 150mm across, which is situated on the rear of the glass collector, which is approx, 550mm high 200mm deep and 400mm across, which has handles moulded into either side of the box, with a simple flap lid, affixed by a simple hinge. Section "E" when affixed to the bin, will hook over section "F" (page"2") which again is a strip of plastic part of the mould on the main chassis at the front of the bin,(section "E") can be easily be fixed behind the door in the house for safe, clean disposal of bottles, and when full is easy to maneuver with moulded inserts for handles.
Section "A: and "B" are to the rear of the bin with section "A" being the main door, for the bottom section of the bin, (60%) which is for recyclable waste. Making full use of wheel axle as a robust hinge for section "A". The top of the bin (40%) is designed to take non recyclable waste, as normal. Size and mouldings similar to existing bins to allow refuse wagons to dispose of waste as normal. The dividing flap is situated at the 60%\40% point of the bin(page 1') its axle at the rear of bin as do the wheels, section "A" and the bin lid. The dividing flap is hinged with an axle, which is set in the recess of the thicker section of the moulding at 60%\40% point (section H) which rings the inside of the bin, allowing a solid platform for dividing flap to sit. At the front of the dividing flap a metal loop is situated in line with section "C". The loop protrudes through thick recess section "D" exposing the loop on the external side of the chassis allowing section "C,, to clasp section "D" into the down position. When section "C,' is released, the ioop is then released, allowing dividing flap to move to fully open on middle axle at 60%\40% point of bin, which in turn allows waste to fall through out through the dividing flap, and out through the lid. Section "B" is a simple thumb catch,(as drawn), which is situated on section "A" just above moulded handle on rear of bin (page 1) * _ 4.

This handle is low maintenance, light weight and strong. The handle is affixed to the main chassis at the front on the 60%\40% point of the bin The handle slots into holes moulded into position on the main chassis. The handle is held in position by stub axles (Al), which allows the handle to swivel unaided and secure.
(2) side elevation This is the waste dividing flap (section D(page 2) .At the 60\40% point of the bin, showing how the handle will secure snuggly in the loop preventing the dividing flap from moving to the open position.

Thumb catch for door. (section B (page 1 and 4) This is a basic spring mounted thumb catch, to keep door closed, of which the bolt locates into the main chassis of the bin.
(BI side elevation) Shows the bolt protruding at least 2 cm into the chassis beyond the door, to allow for the bins movement within its own structure, insuring that the door won't pop open whilst in transit.
(B2 side elevation( page 1 and 4) This shows how the thumb catch is operated, by pushing down, depressing the spring which in turn lowers the bolt (Bi) enough to clear the bin chassis.
(B3 side elevation (page 1 and 4) This shows a space in the moulding below the thumb catch, which allows the thumb piece to travel comfortably within the space provided in the moulding of the door. (section A (page 1) (section A ( page 1) (door for recyclable waste) The door has guide slides on the sides of which slot into sleeves moulded to the inside of the lower section of the bin (60%), which prevents the door from being obstructed from the waste inside the bin, also the side sleeves prevent waste from falling out when maneuvering the door. This door is also hinged on the main axle of the bin, where as the wheels of the bin are also affixed to the main axle, therefor the axle provides a sturdy, strong and secure anchor point for the door.
