Abstract
A clamp comprising a fixed jaw 1 and a movable jaw 2, one of which 1, 2 either comprises or is attached to a post of tubular scaffolding 1. The clamp acts in a range of 0 to 50 millimetres. The jaws 1, 2 may be held in a spaced relationship by a spacing device 4, which may either be rotated by itself, or when attached to the movable jaw 2. The movable jaw 2 may be attached to the fixed jaw by means of a threaded bar and may be acted upon by a nut 5. Adjustment in clamping range may be effected by the removal and rotation of the movable jaw. Recesses in the spacing device 4 may work in combination with packers 6 to prevent the jaws rotating as they are acted upon by the nut 5. The clamp may be used to fix a temporary edge protection system to scaffolding.

Description
The invention relates to a clamp that allows a temporary edge protection system to be fixed to various types of structures or equipment.
The invention is a clamp that is used in conjunction with posts or tubular scaffolding to prevent personnel from falling from heights and to protect others working at lower levels.
There are many hazards in the construction industry due to falling from heights the invention will enable edge protection to be fitted to structures and equipment where edge protection is currently unable or difficult to fit thereby reducing the hazard to personnel.
The object of the invention is to provide a fixing that may be used on various types of structure or equipment in a multiplicity of applications.
Accordingly the invention provides a method of locating a post or tubular scaffolding onto a type of structure or equipment by means of a clamping arrangement, whereby the invention will be secured by tightening a nut on a threaded bar or screw. The invention may be used in a vertical or horizontal plane or in any other inclined plane upon which it may be safely secured.
The invention will be a fabricated metal structure. It will include a method of locating a post or tubular scaffolding that will form the fixed or the moveable jaw of a clamp or alternatively be attached to the fixed or movable jaw of a clamp. Either the fixed or moveable jaw of the clamp will be attached to a device that will locate one jaw to another to prevent rotation of the parts in use. Further this device will allow various thicknesses of structure or equipment to be accommodated by means of manual or alternatively automatic adjustment.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIGURE 1 Shows a view of the invention.
As shown in Figure 1 the invention comprises of a method of locating a post or tubular scaffolding which in this case forms the fixed jaw 1. The moveable jaw 2 is attached to the fixed jaw I by means of a threaded bar or screw 3. The moveable jaw 2 is held in a spaced relationship with the fixed jaw I by means of the device 4 which locates the jaws with reference to each other when acted upon by nut 5. The recesses in device 4 and the packers 6 on the fixed jaw I prevent the jaws rotating as they are acted upon by nut 5.
The action of the nut 5 brings the faces of the jaws together into compressive contact with the structure or the equipment. The device 4 is rotated individually or by attachment to the moveable jaw 2 and rotated as an assembly by removing the assembly from the threaded bar or screw and rotated and re-attached providing a method of clamping in the range 0 to 50mm.
Claims (6)
- Claims I. A clamp comprising of a method of locating a post or tubularscaffolding attached to or comprising the fixed or alternatively the moveable jaw of the clamp acting in the range of 0 to 50mm.
- 2. A clamp as in Claim I where the fixed or moveable jaws are held in a spaced relation ship by means of a device.
- 3. A clamp as in Claim I where the device is able to rotate individually or alternatively by attachment to the fixed or moveable jaw and the assembly is rotated as an assembly.
- 4. A clamp as in Claim I where the moveable jaw is attached to the fixed jaw by means of a threaded bar or screw.
- 5. A clamp as in Claim 1 where the moveable jaw is acted upon by a nut.
- 6. A clamp as in Claim I where the moveable jaw may be removed and rotated to provide a range of widths.
