Abstract

242,432. Schr÷der, E. Nov. 3, 1924. Hollow - ware.- Drums, barrels, and analogous hollow - ware are formed from sheet metal, e.g. iron, shaped to the desired form with its seams welded together, its size being larger than that of the finished product, and the article being brought to its final dimensions by drawing during which operation the welded joints are smoothed. The article may be made from pieces cut obliquely from a strip shown in Fig. 5, the welded seams R, N, Fig. 3, being flattened by the dies shown in Fig. 4. Conical vessels may be made by drawing from the shape A, Fig. 7 to a stepped formation A<1> and then flattening to the shape shown by the dotted line A<2>. Figs. 8 and 9 show further shapes from which articles of various forms can be produced.
