Abstract
A multi angle slip resistant base 3 with recessed apertures 1, 2 to accommodate the feet of one or more ladders offering a secure and level foundation. Apertures 1 and 2 may be used independently or simultaneously. A further segmented recess 4 is set longitudinally in the base and at right angles to the other apertures. The segmented recess is set into a convex surface with each segment set at a different angle to the vertical plane. This allows the base to be used to support a ladder on an uneven surface. In order to maintain the ladder at a safe working angle, with the ladder rungs at the correct horizontal plane, a vial indicator 5 is incorporated into the base. The base may also have an aperture 6 which serves as a carrying handle.
Description
Multi angle sup resistant base This invention relates to a portable slip
resistant base, which provides a secure and level footing for a ladder.
When using a ladder there is often a danger due to the small amount of contact area between the ladder feet and the ground, of the ladder slipping. To overcome this potential danger the present invention proposes an arched shaped base with its external surfaces being of a slip resistant finish. Ladder feet can be set into recessed slots which provide stable support. An additional danger comes from the ladder not being set on level ground. The invention also overcomes this problem by providing options for the placement of ladder feet into a segmented recess within the base which keeps the ladder rungs on a horizontal plane.
The Multi angle slip resistant base will reduce the risk of a ladder slipping at its base whilst also ensuring that a ladder is supported at the correct working angle on level or inclined firm ground.
Preferably, the invention is manufactured with all upward facing surfaces likely to come into contact with a ladder being of a slip resistant material.
The invention is manufactured with the downward facing surface coming into contact with the ground being of a slip resistant material.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, set on level ground and supporting a ladder. The ladder legs can be placed into either recesses 1, 2, that run width ways across the base to ensure a secure setting.
Figure 3 shows the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, set on inclined ground demonstrating how it supports the ladder securely on a horizontal plane. The ladder legs are placed into the segmented recess 4, that runs lengthways along the base. A vial indicator 5, is incorporated into the base which indicates the horizontal plane.
The ladder feet can then be placed in line with the air bubble within the vial indicator 5,to ensure a level and secure footing.
In figure 1, the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, is shown with recesses 1, and 2, incorporated into the base body 3. Either recess 1 or 2 will accept the ladder feet and, with the base positioned on level ground, will provide sturdy support and also provide a large footprint' area. Recesses 1 or 2 can be used individually or simultaneously.
A separate segmented recess 4, is incorporated into the base 3. This recess 4, runs Iengthways along the base. The segmented recess will accept the ladder feet and will be utilised when the base is set upon inclined ground. The precise position of the ladder feet will be determined by the use of a vial indicator 5, which is incorporated into the base and is positioned parallel to the segmented recess 4. The ladder feet are positioned within the recess 4, at a point indicated by the vial indicator 5. This will ensure the ladder is supported securely and with the ladder rungs at the correct horizontal plane.
The Multi angle slip resistant base 3, shall be constructed as to offer firm and flexible support.
The Multi angle slip resistant base 3, will have an aperture 6, which will perform as carrying handle.
Figure 2, shows the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, set on level ground with a ladder introduced into recess 1. The ladder could equally be set into recess 2. Both recesses 1 and 2, are of adequate size to allow the ladder to be positioned at the correct working angle.
Figure 3, shows the Multi angle slip resistant base 3, set on an incline with the ladder feet introduced into the segmented recess 4, the recess follows the upper surface plane and therefore allows the ladder to be set at the correct working angle and also allows the ladder rungs to be set on the correct horizontal plane by utilising the vial indicator 5. The ladder feet should be positioned at equal distance either side of the air bubble within the vial indicator 5.
