Abstract

A ladder platform 5,6 comprises three or more legs 1-4 which may be adjusted in height to tilt the platform in any direction and to hold a ladder 8 on uneven ground. The platform may be provided with brackets, clamps or stays 7,9 to secure the ladder to the platform and to hold the ladder at a safe angle relative to an adjacent structure. The platform increases the footprint of the ladder base and is able to resist slipping and falling of the ladder.

Description

240761 2 LADDER SUI.I,ORT This invention is a device to hold and support a
ladder vertically and not bit sideways and at the correct angle or slope against the wall or structure and restrict the ladder from slipping or falling.
There are three main problems to overcome to make it safer to work on or from a ladder.
No. I is to restrict the ladder from slipping.
No. 2 is to restrict the ladder from falling.
No. 3 is to hold the ladder vertically on uneven or slopping ground.
There are devices available that compensate for these problems but this device is intended to compensate for all three of them in one device.
The way this device works is by providing an adjustable platform that is fixed to the bottom of the ladder that extends beyond the feet of the ladder in all directions and holds and supports the ladder in its working position in this way increasing the area or footprint of the ladder this increase in footprint will provide extra support for the ladder in all directions restricting slipping or falling.
In addition to compensate for uneven or slopping ground the platform is supported on three or more feet or legs one or more of the legs or feet may be adjustable and or the platform or support mountings may be adjustable.
A description of how this device works will now be described with the aide of the drawings provided in witch.
No. I is a front view of the device with a ladder in place.
No. 2 is a view of the device from above with a ladder in place.
No. 3 is a side view of the device with a ladder in place.
A description of one possible design of the device will now be described this particular design has four feet or legs but may have more feet or legs but can have as few as three feet or legs.
In this design the platform consists of a cross and one section No.6 fig I is positioned centrally between the feet of the ladder and at right angles to the ladder feet and has a foot or leg that maybe adjustable at each end No. I and 2 fig 1 with one foot or leg closer to the wall than the ladder feet and one foot or leg farther away from He wall than the ladder feet on these two feet or legs the stand and ladder can be tilted from side to side to compensate for uneven or sloping ground in addition these feet or legs will restrict the ladder from falling backwards away from the wall and restrict the ladder from slipping down the wall.
Section No.5 fig 2 crosses and is fixed at right angles to No.6 at a point away fiom the ends of No.6 and in the centre of No.5 and extending sideways beyond the ladder feet at each side of the ladder and having adjustable feet or legs No. 3 and 4 fig I one at each end of No.S these feet adjust to support the stand and ladder sideways in the vertical position.
Additionally on No.5 fig I there is provided a means to mount the ladder onto the stand not shown also a means to fix and hold the ladder to stand not shown In addition there may be a means of stabilising the ladder such as a stay that maybe adjustable from the stand up to the ladder and fixed to both and forming a triangle with the ladder and stand and stay forming the three sides of the triangle No.9 fig 3.
The stay No.9 fig 3 will hold the ladder restricting the ladder from falling backwards away from the wall and from slipping down the wall. Alliteratively there may be brackets at No.7 fig 1 to hold the ladder at a safe angle to a wall or structure and may be adjustable to alter the angle and or there may be at No7.fig 1 adjusdnents to lift or lower the ladder feet independently to tilt the ladder sideways that would compensate for uneven or sloping ground.

Claims (1)
