Abstract
A laser oil level setting kit comprising: a vee block which is attached to a rotating shaft via a chain and bracket arrangement. A square cross-sectioned rod is attached to the vee block and extends away from an end thereof a further bracket being clamped to the square-cross-sectioned rod, the bracket being able to be clamped to the rod in any position by a grub screw. An additional calibrated cylindrical rod extends from the same movable bracket at 90 degrees to the square cross-sectioned rod, the bracket being clamped to the cylindrical rod in any position by a further grub screw. The cylindrical rod is calibrated in millimetres and has a laser pointer positioned at its bottom end and accurately transfers the oil level inside the casing of a bearing of the shaft onto the bearing casing.
Description
DESCRIPTION
This invention is for setting oil levels in pumps with roller and ball bearings with sumps and the level is maintained at V2 a ball or roller usually topped up by Denco' constant oiler.
The petrochem or water industry have vast numbers of o hung and double ended centrifugal pumps the vast majority of which have a wet sump with the oil level set at V2 a ball or roller on the smallest DIA bearing so the BRGS are actually lubricated by running in oil if the level is set wrong failure of the bearing occurs rapidly at great cost and downtime, setting of the oil level at the moment is very difficult to do accurately usually involving u tube manometers' or actually trying to measure them with rules and spirit levels. My idea uses a calibrated arm that is clamped to the pump shaft with a movable arm that holds a laser beam to transfur the level on to the pump casing or oiler.
This operates on measuring from the centre line of shaft to /2 ball or whatever oil level required. It takes the guess' work out of setting oil levels accurately and could save huge amounts of money through premature BRG failure due to incorrect oil levels, I have made a prototype and it does work well. I want to approach someone like Pruftechnic' to see if they want to make it or maybe someone like Optilign' sorry the drawings are basic as I have done them myself.
Claims (2)
- A vee' block that is attached to a shaft or other round surface by use of a chain, with a square rod attached in the same plane as the vee block, along the square rod runs a bracket that can be clamped to the rod in any position with a grub screw. At 900 to the square rod and in the same bracket that runs along it, is a further round rod that moves up and down and can be clamped with a grub screw. This rod is calibrated in milemetres and on the bottom end of this rod is a laser pointer.
- 2. A bracket as described in one that when the vee block is clamped to the shaft of a typical single o, hung centrifugal pump behind the coupling, the square rod is set level with a small spirit level, the round calibrated rod can be set to a prescribed height of oil wanted in the sump of the pump and the laser can be activated to accurately mark that level on the outside of the pump casing. 2:
