Abstract

An edge protection tape for protecting panes of fire-resistant glass composed of a plurality of panes and fire-retardant interlayers arranged therebetween of hydrous alkali silicate or the like is provided. The edge protection tape comprising, in its rollable processing state, an adhesive layer covered by a silicone paper, followed by an aluminium foil and a polyurethane film applied to the outside of the aluminium by means of an adhesive layer, characterised in that, to increase the surface slip of the edge protection tape (8) applied to the edges of the panes of glass, the outer polyurethane film (5) is covered by a further adhesive layer (6) and a slip film (7) applied thereto.

Description

"Edge protection tape, in particular for panes of fire- resistant glass" A
fire-resistant glass with a corresponding edge protection tape exhibiting the structure according to the precharacterising clause of claim 1 and providing a basis for the present edge protection tape is known from the Applicant's previously published Utility Model 20 2004 001 010.0.
It has been found in practice that the comparative roughness of the external polyurethane film makes it difficult to transport or otherwise handle fire-resistant glazing or slide the as-a-rule very heavy panes; the edge protection tape may also be rubbed off if the edge protection tapes of neighbouring panes rub against one another during transportation or storage.
This is where the invention comes in, its object being in particular to simplify the handling of fire-resistant glazing provided with a corresponding edge protection tape during storage, transportation and processing.
This object is achieved according to the invention for a corresponding edge protection tape of the above-mentioned type in that, to increase the surface slip of the edge protection tape applied to the edges of the panes of glass, the external polyurethane film is covered by a further adhesive layer and a slip film applied thereto.
According to the invention, the slip film may be made from appropriate materials, such as for example polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and the like, to mention just a few examples; further examples constitute the subject matter of the subclaims.
The invention is explained in greater detail below by way of example with reference to the drawing. This shows, in the single Figure, the structure of the edge protection tape, wherein it goes without saying that the thicknesses of the individual films have been very greatly enlarged in order to illustrate them effectively, the film thicknesses and the thicknesses of the adhesive coating being between 5 and approximately 350 pm, further details not being necessary here.
The Figure shows an edge protection tape designated generally as 8, with the following layered structure, starting at the bottom: 1 silicone paper 2 adhesive coatings 3 aluminium foil 4 adhesive layer polyurethane film 6 adhesive layer 7 slip film, here in the form of a polyester film.
The slip film designated 7 is stated in the Figure to be a polyester film. Any materials having good surface slip may be used in this respect, for example PE, PP, pvc and the like, as described in greater detail in the subclaims.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims: 1. An edge protection tape for protecting panes of fire- resistant
    glass composed of a plurality of panes and fire-retardant interlayers arranged therebetween of hydrous alkali silicate or the like, the edge protection tape comprising, in its rollable processing state, an adhesive layer covered by a silicone paper, followed by an aluminium foil and a polyurethane film applied to the outside of the aluminium by means of an adhesive layer, characterised in that, to increase the surface slip of the edge protection tape (8) applied to the edges of the panes of glass, the outer polyurethane film (5) is covered by a further adhesive layer (6) and a slip film (7) applied thereto.
  2. 2. An edge protection tape according to claim 1, characterised in that the slip film (7) is made of PE (polyester).
  3. 3. An edge protection tape according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the slip film (7) is made of PP (polypropylene).
  4. 4. An edge protection tape according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the slip film (7) is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
  5. 5. An edge protection tape according to any one of the Preceding claims, characterised in that the slip film (7) is made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
  6. 6. An edge protection tape according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the slip film (7) is made of PMMA (polymethyl- methacrylate).
