Abstract

The adapter 1 fits between each petrol injector 2 and the intake manifold 3 of a petrol engines being converted to run on an alternative fuel. The adapter has a nozzle 4, or is threaded to receive a nozzle, to accept the gas supply pipe. The adapter may have an O-ring (6,fig.1) of similar size to the O-ring 7 on the petrol injector to seal it to the manifold 3. The adapter negates the need to drill holes in the manifold when converting the engine.

Description

I
Patent application details.
Title; Alternative fuel (to be referred to as gas) I petrol injector adapter. Crossjet nozzle.
Background;
This invention relates to obtaining the optimum alternative fuel injection location safely in an alternative fuel (gas) converted internal combustion engine.
When converting a fuel injected petrol engine to run on an alternative fuel, using a multi point gas injection system, the gas injector nozzles have to be fitted into the inlet manifold of the engine as close as possible to each existing petrol injector. The fitting of these nozzles require that a hole be drilled and threads be tapped into the material of the manifold. This means that time and expense is expended in removing the manifold to drill and tap it. If it is not removed for this process, bits of swarf from the drilling and tapping of the threads can fall into the manifold/engine causing damage when the engine is started after conversion is completed.
Statement of invention;
To avoid these problems the invention proposes to avoid the need to remove or even drill and tap the manifold at all.
Advantages; By not having to remove or even drill any holes in the manifold, installation time is reduced and there is no risk at all of swarf entering and therefore damaging the engine.
Introduction to drawings;
Accompanying this application are two drawings.
Drawing 1. The adapter side view (1), and plan view (2).
Drawing 2. Shows its location in relation to the engines inlet manifold and the petrol injectors and the petrol injectors fuel rail. Installed and exploded view.
Detailed description;
The adapter (1) is made from a suitable material. It will be of varying sizes to suit the petrol injector (2) and manifold (3) it will be used with. It has on it a nozzle (4), or in some instances a thread tapped into it (5) to receive, a similar sized nozzle to accept the pipe from the gas injector rail. The adapter has a groove cut in it (6) to accept an o-ring of suitable diameter to seal it into the manifold, this would be of the similar size to the one on the petrol injector (7) for each application.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims; 1. An adapter to negate the need to drill and tap a hole in the
    inlet manifold of an internal combustion engine for the fitting of a gas injector nozzle.
    2. The adapter according to claim 1. Is made of any suitable material.
    4. The adapter in claimi has a hole drilled and tapped into it to accept a nozzle to attach a gas feed pipe to, or; 5. The adapter in claim 1 has a nozzle moulded onto it to attach a gas feed pipe.
    5. The adapter in claim I has a means of providing an air tight seal between it and the manifold it fits into.
    7. The adapter in claim 1 allows the petrol system to function normally when running on gas.
