Abstract

A confectionery breaking unit includes a manually operated pivotal lever for breaking confectionery in rows, the lever rotates on a rod which is secured in position across the end of the base which, at the same time, in turn, holds the confectionary in position whilst this action takes place. The unit is preferably used for breaking bars of chocolate.

Description

COflfectionary Breaker This invention relates to a device for breaking
confectionary Although bars of chocolate havea seHes of grooves set at right angles to one another for the purpose of separating portions. Nevertheless breaking each portion can for many be a finger wrenching task. This is particularly so if the chocolate is kept in a refrigerator Also, and in particular during hot summers a persons fingers can start to get sticky.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a rotating mechanical lever to break chocolate in rows. The rotating lever being manually Operated.
This enables the chocolate to be broken into the desired portions with the minimum of effort and without fingers getting sticky.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accofnpanyi ng drawings: Figure 1. shows a side view of a chocolate breaker with the handle in the raised position Figure 2. shows a plan view of a chocolate breaker.
Figure 3. shows an end view of a chocolate breaker.
Figure 4. shs a plan view of a chocolate breaker of a different width.
Figure 5. shows an end view of a chocolate breaker with another variation.
Figures 6, 7 & 8 show a side, plan and end view of a chocolate breaker with an enhancement.
In figures 1, 2 & 3. a chocolate breaker, featuring the lever, which, although shown in the fully raised position, when lying horizontally consists of, verticle member 2, horizontal member 3 and handle 14. Members 2 and 3 are secured together, possibly by welding and handle 14 is secured Possibly by welding or screwing The lever is pivoted into the end of the main body 1, rotating on a rod 9 which is secured, possibly by welding, between the two sides of the main body. The bar of chocolate 15, lies on a support, which may for example be a block of wood or polyethylene 11 which is fastencd, DOs5biy by adhesvc or screwing onto tne base of the main body, and is Positioned with the piece of chocolate, which it is desired to be broken, over the end of the support. When the lever is brought down, the shs component 6, which is secured, possibly by welding, into the end of the lever via components 4 and 5 also secured possibly by welding, comes into contact with the chocolate, which, then should break at the appropiate groove.
While the breaking operation takes place, the remaining chocolate is prevented from rotating by other rods 10 (and eventually the rhs 7) which are also secured into main body possibly by welding and thus, when the chocolate portion is broken, it falls onto the base of the main body where it can be accessed.
After the desired portion of chocolate has been broken off and removed, the chocolate can be moved when desired, so that the next piece can be broken by a repeat of the process. When all the desired chocolate pieces have been broken and removed, the support block 12, possibly wood or polyethylene, which is fastened to shs 8 possibly by means of screws or adhesive, can he rested on the rhs 7.
When the handle is fully raised as shown, it rests on plate 13, which is secured, possibly by welding onto main body 1.
Figure 4. shows a plan view of the chocolate breaker in which the overall width is shown to be variable to enable bars of chocolate with different widths to be broken. In this case, items 16 - 25 have all been shown widened or lengthened to accommodate a bar of chocolate 26 with a different width. For example, item 21 is wider version of item 8 as shown in Figure 1, item 17 is wider version of item 3.
Figure 5. shows an end view where a thicker piece of chocolate 28, is placed on a thinner support 27.
Figures 6, 7 & 8 show the side, plan and end view, where a handscrew 31 could be used to adjust the vertical position of rhs component 29, according to the thickness of the chocolate, to ensure that the chocolate is prevented from rotating during the breaking process. The handscrew could be centrally located and could be secured by means of a pair of nuts 32 and could operate the rhs 29 by means of a captive nut 33 secured possibly by welding into the rhs.
When lever is in the horizontal position, the support block 12 could rest upon shs 30, which could be secured into main body by welding.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1. A device for breaking confectionary, has a rotating lever, whch
is manually operated and pivoted within the main frame, which a'so oids the confectionary whilst the breaking action takes place.
  2. 2. A device for breaking confectionary according to claim 1, in which the main frame and lever are shown to have different widths to accommodate a piece of confoctionary with a different width.
  3. 3. A device for breaking confectionary according to claim 1, in which the support upon which the confectionary is placed, is at a reduced height in order to accommodate thicker pieces of confectionary
  4. 4. A device for breaking confectionary according to claim I, in which the rhs is vertically adjustable to ensure the prevention of the rotation of chocolate during breaking, thus allowing for chocolate of varying thicknesses.
