Abstract

A gate adaptor unit includes a hollow steel housing 3 with fixing plates 2,6 and post anchor plate 5 which can be fitted to existing or new vertical bar or similar gates so that an existing door closer can be installed.

Description

DESCRIPTION
An example of this invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
The adaptor unit is in 2-main parts, the closer housing which is fixed to the gate (a) in Fig. 1-4 and an anchor plate which is fixed to the gate post (b) in Fig. 1-4.
The gate adaptor comprises a steel tube 1 in fig. 1-4 (which is to house the Dictator RTS tube closer) welded to a pre-drilled steel support plate fig.2 in 1-4 together with spacers fig.3 in fig 1-4. These spacers assist in creating the correct gap between the centre line of the gate and hinge (c) in fig. 1-4 and the centre line of the housing (d) in fig. 1-4.
The gate adaptor housing with support plate are secured to the gate by bolting through the vertical bars to a back plate-drilled to match the support plate 6 in fig. 1-4. The Dictator RTS closer itself has at its end a pre-drilled flange (e) in fig.2 by which it can be fixed by screws normally to the edge of a door. The gate adaptor has a pre-drilled plate 4 in fig.1-4 welded to the end of the housing to accommodate this fixing. The closer itself is activated by loading the spring inside the tube when opening the door or gate. This is achieved by anchoring the internal workings of the closer to the door frame and a further separate flange (f) in fig.2 is supplied in the closer kit. To accommodate this flange the gate adaptor post plate 5 in fig. 1-4 is bolted to the gate post using washers 7 in fig. 1-3 to achieve the correct position between the two closer fixing plates. Variations in hinge position and posts may require a different post plate such as 8 in fig.4. Once the two closer fixing plates are secure the closer can be activated as normal.

Claims (4)

  1. A hollow steel chassis and post anchor plate which can be fitted on the outside of new or existing gates and posts, to allow a Dictator RTS tube gate closer to be installed and operated.
  2. 2. A hollow steel chassis and anchor plate according to claim 1 which can be fitted either by bolting or welding to the gate and post.
  3. 3. A hollow steel chassis and anchor plate according to claim 2 with a galvanised finish.
  4. 4. A hollow steel unit and anchor plate according to claim 3 that can have different anchor plates to suit variations in gate posts.
