Abstract

Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods, whereby the bag comprises at least four side panels (1) and a bottom panel, and a lifting strap (3) formed from woven fabric or foil is provided on at least one side panel, characterized in that the apex (4) of the lifting strap (3) when under load lies below the upper edge (5) of the bag. The strap (3) may be formed by a continuous loop which is sewn to the side panel and can receive a forklift tine of the like (15) in its raised apex (4).

Description

Bulk bag The invention relates to a bulk bag made from woven fabric or
foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods, whereby the bag comprises at least four side panels and a bottom panel, and a lifting strap formed from woven fabric or foil is provided on at least one side panel.
Such bulk bags are well known. German Patent DE 698 00810 T2 for example shows such a bulk bag, whereby lifting straps are formed by turning over and sewing the extended side panels of the bulk bag. These lifting straps can be used to receive the tines of a forklift truck in order to be able to raise the bag in this way. The fact that these lifting straps under load always lie higher than the cover of the bulk bag is disadvantageous. Also, it is a disadvantage that such lifting straps lie against the side panel of the bag after it has been set upright and filled, thus making it difficult to insert the tines of the fork lift truck. In practical operation at least one assistant is needed to hold such lifting straps apart.
The object is therefore to create an improved bulk bag, whose lifting straps have the necessary stiffness, not to hang over the cover or the upper edge of the bulk bag and can easily be brought into an open or half open position, so that the tines of a forklift truck or holding rods of a storage shelf can be easily inserted.
The present invention is characterized in that the lifting strap with its apex lies also under load below the upper edge of the bag.
According to a further feature the lifting strap in the unloaded state can be folded along its apex inwards and against the side panel of the bag and can be unfolded again from the side panel during use of the bag. In a preferred embodiment the lifting strap is formed from a round fabric, which is fastened, preferably sewn, crosswise over the side panel of the bag.
According to further features of the invention the round fabric is folded along a lower surface line and the fold is sewn with the side panel of the bag and the round fabric is sewn along its two open edges towards the upper edge of the bag, whereby the upper surface line of the round fabric forms the apex of the bulk bag. Preferably the lifting straps are provided on the side panels lying opposite one another of the bag.
The invention is described in detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment.
Fig. I schematically shows the diagonal view of an inventive bulk bag in the upright position.
Figs. 2 and 3 schematically show in lateral view two functional positions of the lifting strap.
in accordance with Fig. I the bulk bag substantially consists of four sides I and is closed underneath by the bottom 2. The cover 9 is arranged along the upper edges 5 of the bulk bag. Lifting straps 11 are fastened in a known way on the side edges 10 in order to be able to move the bulk bag for example by means of a crane.
The bulk bag can be provided with the usual functional elements, such as for example a filling opening in the cover 9 and a discharge opening in the bottom 2.
Such elements are not drawn in here for the sake of simpler illustration.
The inventive lifting straps 3, which are used either to be able to raise and transport the bag with lifting apparatus, for example forklift trucks, or to be able to hang the bulk bag on holding rods of a shelf, are arranged along the two sides 1 lying opposite one another.
The lifting straps preferably consist of a round fabric, which has the advantage that no join seams are required along the outer surface, resulting in particularly good tear resistance. Furthermore in the case of the round fabric the cost of sewing is less than with web-shaped flat fabrics.
For joining with the side panel of the bag the round fabric is squeezed along a lower surface line 6 to form a lower fold 7, and this fold is firmly sewn with the side panel by four parallel-running seams for example. A strap seam 12, which extends towards the upper edge 5, for joining on the side panel, is provided in each case along the open edge 8 of the round fabric. The upper apex 4 of the lifting strap, which falls into the region of the upper fold 13, arises along an upper surface line of the round fabric.
This fold 13 is formed due to the fact that the lifting strap in the unloaded state can be folded along its apex inwards and against the side panel of the bag. The round fabric is additionally protected against wear along the openings of the lifting strap by the sewing of a hem 16.
Fig. I shows the position of the bulk bag, when it is set upright or is already filled with bulk goods. The side panels 1 stand upright and the lifting straps have unfolded towards both sides as this is illustrated in Fig. 1. The upper fold 13 is spread out in such a manner that the tine of a forklift truck can be easily inserted. This spreading of the fold 13 can be effected purely by the dead weight of the material.
On the other hand the structure of the lifting strap has the advantage that when the bag is being transported in the empty state the lifting straps can be pressed closely against the side panels, so that the space requirement in the empty state in minimal.
In practice many such bulk bags are transported stacked one above the other in the folded state, so that the requirement for minimum space during transport is substantial.
Fig. 2 shows a functional position after the bag has been set upright, whereby the lifting strap begins to fold apart. In this case a movement in the direction of arrow 14 takes place.
Fig. 3 shows the situation when a holding rod or the tine 15 of a forklift truck is inserted. When the tensile load is again removed, the lifting strap is able to fold back again into the configuration in Fig. 2, so that no troublesome projections from the bag are to be considered.
Although it is stated above that the formation of the lifting straps by round fabric is advantageous, the lifting straps may also be formed from flat material. The two joins of the flat web must then accordingly be sewn firmly in the region of the lower fold 7.

Claims (6)

  1. Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods, whereby the bag comprises at least four side panels and a bottom panel, and a lifting strap formed from woven fabric or foil is provided on at least one side panel, characterized in that the lifting strap with its apex lies also under load below the upper edge of the bag.
  2. 2. Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods according to Claim 1, characterized in that for space-saving storage of the bulk bag the lifting strap can be folded along its apex inwards and against the side panel of the bag and can be unfolded again from the side panel during use of the bag.
  3. 3. Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the lifting strap is formed from a round fabric, which is fastened, preferably sewn, crosswise over the side panel of the bag.
  4. 4. Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods according to Claims I to 3, characterized in that the round fabric is folded along a lower surface line and the fold is sewn with the side panel and whereby the round fabric is sewn along its two open edges towards the upper edge of the bag, and whereby the upper surface line of the round fabric forms the apex of the bulk bag.
  5. 5. Bulk bag made from woven fabric or foil for the transport and/or storage of bulk goods according to Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that lifting straps are provided on the side panels lying opposite one another of the bag.
  6. 6. A bulk bag substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
