Abstract
A diesel vehicle fuel pump nozzle 1 has a non-circular cross section outlet, which engages with a similiarly shaped vehicle fuel inlet 2, to ensure only diesel fuel can be supplied to the vehicle. The cross-section may be square, triangular or of any other non-circular cross-section. Prevents fuelling with the incorrect fuel.
Description
Fuel Pump Nozzle This invention relates to diesel fuel dispensing systems,
and more particularly to pump nobles and vehicle inlets therefore.
Petrol and diesel fuels are dispensed in garage forecourts from similar pumps. This gives rise to problems of identification. Although nozzles are often coloured differently, motorists sell make mistakes and dispense diesel fuel into petrol-engine vihicles and petrol into diesel-engine vehicles.
Rectification of these mistakes requires expensive flushing and cleaning operations before the vehicle can be used again. Engine damage can also result.
To prevent such mistakes I have designed a diesel pump nozzle that cannot be inserted into a petrol-engine vehicle fuel inlet. According to the invention a vehicle fuel dispensing system has a pump nozzle outlet and a vehicle fuel inlet with similar non-circular engaging cross-sections. The invention also relates a method of dispensing fuel using such systems.
The invention m11 now be described by the reference as the drawing.
In the figure, 1 is a diesel pump nozzle which is intended to be inserted into a vehicle fuel inlet 2 to dispense fuel. Pump nozzle 1 has a square cross- section which is fits into a similarly squared cross-sectioned vehicle inlet 2.
The dimension 'a' of the nozzle is such that the nozzle cannot be inserted into a standard circular petrolngine vehicle inlet.
It is possible of course to make the nozzle and fuel inlet of any noncircular cross section which would not fit into a standard circular vehicle inlet em triangular.
Claims (5)
- What I claim is, 1. A vehicle fuel dispensing system wherein a pumpnozzle outlet and a vehicle fuel inlet have similar non-circular engaging cross sections.
- 2. A system as in claim 1 wherein the cross section is square.
- 3. A system as in claim 1 wherein the cross section is triangular.
- 4. A method of dispensing vehicle fuel using the system claimed in 1.
- 5. A fuel system and method of using the system as shown in the figure.
