Abstract
A fitment 1 adapted to attach a tool,e.g. a paint roller head (10; figure 2), rigidly but releasably to an elongate handle (11, 12; figure 2) is characterised in that the fitment 1 is configured to accommodate a plurality of different handle-end profiles e.g. screwthreaded or plain. Optionally, the fitment comprises a plurality of handle-end receiving means 3, 4 located in parallel. Further optionally, the fitment comprises a first handle-end receiving means (19, figure 3) as part of the body of the fitment (16; figure 3) and a second handle-end receiving means (20; figure 3) configured to fit into the first receiving means. Further optionally, the fitment incorporates a recessed receiving means 3 which has three tapered sections 5, 6, 7.

A FITMENT
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to fitments and particularly to fitments such as those used between handle and rollers by decorators.
The invention may have applications in a wide variety ol' fields other than paint rollers such as garden tools, floor mops or brushes.
Background to the Invention
I'raditonal roller head fitments are either tapered or screw-threaded to acconrnodate similarly specifically tapered or screw-tilreatlecl pole ends. Decorators will therefore have to own the particular pole which Is compatible with the particular fitment. Decorators are therefore forced to check very carefully that the poles and fitments correspond. In the consumer market where the professional painter and decorator or DIY decorator often purchases pole fitments of various brands without carefully looking, he/she may find himself/hersell'without being able to mate the adequate pole litment connection and waste valuable tune and money before starting the actual paint job.
ulilmat y Of the Invention In its broadest independcrt aspect, tlc invention provides a ltment adaptccI to attach a tool rigiLtly but releasably to an elongate hantile characteriscd in that the iltment is conlgurcI to accommodate a plurality ol'dit'fcrent hand-cn(i profiles.
This will allow a fitment to be used with multiple pole ends whiel1 have a wide range of dil'ferent profiles. This would allow a decorator to mated poles and fitments rapidly without necessarily having to carefully purchase matching poles and fitments. 'lhis would leave the secondary effect ol'allowmg a decorator to more rapidly start painting. In certain circumstances, it would also allow a decorator to use one oi'his/ller previous poles which did not need to be replaced with a new inrush and roller head.
In a subsidiary aspect in accordance with the invention's broadest independent aspect, the Ointment comprises a plurality of handle-end receiving means located in parallel.
his would allow the fitment to achieve its multiple pole end compatibility without requiring multiple components for example a single body with two recessed portions side by side is all that would be required. Having a single body of this kind would also allow the fitment to achieve high levels of rigidity which would be necessary for its prolonged use.
In a further subsidiary aspect, the figment comprises a first handle-end receiving means as part of the body of tile Ailment and a second handleend receiving means configured to fit mto the first receiving means.
I'his alternative configuration is also particularly advantageous because it may allow the first and second receiving means to have essentially identical centre lines. Tllis may also allow the patient itself to be of smaller dimensions than for example a figment incorporating two receiving means side by side hi the body ol'the fitment.
In a further subsidiary aspect, the fitment incorporates a recessed receiving means which has three taperecl sections. 'Illis will allow the receiving means to be matetl with pole ends ol'a plurality oi'dil'ferent diameters.
So In a further subsidiary aspect, the fitment has at least one screwtilreaded section handle- end receiving means and one tapered receiving meals. ''this would allow the fitment to be used both with a screw thread pole and an ordinary smooth surface pole end.
Brief Description of the Figures
Figures la and Ih show a cross sectional view (Figure la) and an end view (Figure lb) of a fitment in accordance with a first embodhnent of the invention.
Figure 2 shows a fitment relative lo a roller head and two pole ends in accordance with a first embodiment ol' the invention.
Figure 3 shows in cross sectional view a fitment in accordance with a second embodiment of the invention.
Figure 4 shows in cross sectional view a third embodiment of the invention.
Detailed Description ofthe Figures
Figure la shows a fitment I having a recessed portion 2 located in the front end of the fitmcilt. Fitment I has at the back end of' the fitment a triple tapered recess 3 and a threaded recess 4.
The triple tapered recess 3 has three tapered sections 5, 6 and 7, each having an inwardly tapered surface. The angle of' each section's surface is progressively greater from outer section 5 to inmost section 7. The overall diameter of each successive section Is greater front innermost section to outermost section.
Tl1readeti recess 4 starts itself recessed from the outermost surface 8 of'thc 1rtment. This recess ') Is of a greater diameter than recess 4 which may allow a washer to be fitted therein for contributing to tightly securing the end of a pole when fitecd in recess 4.
Both recesses 3 and 4 may receive appropriately sized pole ends. The f'itment is therefore useful for multiple pole ends.
In Figure 2, fitment I Is shown In perspective view alongstie a roller head I O ol' known kind and poles 11 and 12 of' known kind. 'I'he roller heatis 1() may be fitted in recess 2 and secured to the l'itment by a bolt (not shown n1 the figure) passing through hole 13 and being threaded into a mating threaded recess 14 of the fitment I. Pole 11 is of essentially uni long cross section whilst pole I 2 ends in a threaded region 15 made to fit in recess 4.
The fitment may preferably be of stainless steel and machined.
Figure 3 shows a figment 16 havmg a first part 17 which has a recessed portion 18 for sec'.,ri..g a roller head anu a ibreaded recess 1') at its back: end to which is fitted the second part 20 of the fitrnent. Tile second part 20 ol the fitment has a projecting threaded portion 21 shown screwed into threaded recess 19. The back end of seconcl part of fitment 16 incorporates a pole end receiving means 22 being tapered Inwardly.
Fitrmcnt 16 may be used as a single part with a pole end of a diameter sufficient to allow engagement with recess 19. Alternatively the second part may be attached to the first part m order to allow a pole end to be secured by a recess 22.
[figure 4 shows a 1itment 23 with a recess 24 for securing a roller head and two projecting members 25 and 26 to allow a recessed pole end to either be frictionally engaged with projecting member 25 or threaded onto projecting member 26.
