Abstract
An adjustable plate/pad worn on the back (like a back-pack) with wheels, rollers or covered in a low-friction material that allows the wearer to lean against a wall or supporting structure whilst sliding up and down, performing the Squat exercise. It has attachment points allowing the addition of extra weight to increase the difficulty of the movement.
Description
Portable Squat Slider This invention relates to a device that can be worn
to assist in taking physical exercise, body conditioning or physiotherapy.
One of the factors that can contribute to discomfort in the knee (especially in the elderly) is atrophy of the quadriceps. By strengthening the muscles, discomfort in the knee can be reduced.
One of the exercises recognised, as being beneficial for the strengthening of the thigh muscles is the 'Squat'. However, performing the correct, safe technique can be difficult without specialized equipment (the type that can be found in some gymnasiums); so those wishing to perform the exercise in their own homes or away from a gym can find it very difficult to perform it in a safe, controlled and effective manner. By wearing the "Portable Squat Slider" it allows the individual trying to execute the 'Squat' to lean against a wall, or other suitable structure, thus enabling them to achieve the correct relationship between the foot and the knee (crucial to preventing injury) and without the fear of falling over.
The device is an anatomically shaped 'plate' (with padding) and is worn on the back (like a back-pack), with adjustable straps. Fixed to the outermost face of the plate, away from the body are wheels (perhaps similar to those on roller skates), rollers, or a smooth low-friction finish that will allow the wearer to move smoothly and comfortably, up and down the structure being leant against.
Attachment points can be placed along the lower portion of the plate/pad to facilitate the attaching of additional weight to increase the difficulty of the exercise.
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. A device worn on the torso, that allows the wearer to leanagainst a walltsuitable structure and slide up and down.
- 2. A device according to claim 1, to aid physical exercise, body conditioning or physiotherapy.
- 3. A device according to claim 1, consisting of an adjustable plate or pad worn like a back-pack, with wheels, rollers, or a low-friction material, allowing the wearer to move smoothly up and down the surface being leant against.
- 4. A device according to claim 1, which has attachment points to facilitate the addition of extra weight to increase the difficulty of the movement.
