Abstract

241,760. Assorati, A. Jan. 6, 1925. Float valves.-In buoyancy motors for utilizing tidal energy lifting apparatus is operated by a float disposed in a tank having inlet and outlet valves operated by the float. The float 15, Fig. 4 is connected to a winding drum on a shaft 66 having a larger drum connected to a frame 60 to which is pivoted a bucket 58, the bucket being tilted to discharge its contents by an arm 73 engaging an adjustable stop 71. The inlet valve 7, Fig. 2, is closed when the float 15 reaches its upper position by an abutment 19, a float 10 being provided to close this valve when the tank is full in the event of the float 15 sticking. The valve is maintained closed by a weighted catch 38, Fig. 10, until the float 15 on reaching its lower position releases the catch by a connection 41. The outlet valve 12 is connected to a weighted lever 22, which is held in the position shown to maintain the valve closed by a catch 46 having an arm 48, Fig. 7, which is engaged by an abut. ment 50 to disengage the catch when the float 15 is in the upper position. The lever 22 is further controlled by a weighted lever 26 which is moved cut of the path of the lever 22 by a lever 35 actuated by an abutment 36 on the float when the latter reaches its upper position, so that the lever 22 moves to open the outlet valve. The lever 26 is held in this position by a catch 52, Fig. 6, engaging the lever 35, until the catch is disengaged by a connection 55 when the float is in its lower position, whereupon the weight 29 moves the lever 26 to cause it to engage the lever 22 to close the outlet valve.
