Abstract

A motorised levelling system for a trailer caravan comprises a number of motorised screw jacks which are controlled by a central control unit 4 located within the caravan. The control unit, e.g. a control panel, comprises switches to allow each jack to be raised or lowered as required. Each jack comprises a leg 1 that is driven by a screw 2. The screw is rotated by a motor 3. The jacks are preferably located at each corner of the caravan. A level indicator 5 may be provided within sight of the control panel.

Leveller Power Kit for Caravan Jack Legs This invention relates to a kit to provide a motorised means of levelling a trailer caravan.
When a trailer caravan is positioned on site it is normally levelled by the adjustment of screw jack legs which are fitted to the four corners of the caravan. The normal procedure involves manually adjusting each leg in turn using a brace, whilst continually referring to a level indicator fitted in one appropriate position either inside the vehicle or on the towbar assembly. This involves repeatedly moving from each corner to check the level indicator. The operation also requires a reasonable amount of physi- cal effort to achieve.
The present invention proposes to allow the entire operation to be carried out from a control panel and level indicator situated at a single position inside the caravan.
The apparatus consists of a control panel positioned at a convenient location inside the caravan and a level indicator within sight. The control panel is connected by wires to motors affixed to each jack leg in suitable positions to drive the mechanism of the leg. Switches on the control panel allow each jack leg to be raised and lowered as required.
Application of the invention is shown in drawing Figure 1.
Each jack leg 1 is fitted with a motor 3 to the end of the screw shaft 2. The motors are controlled from the control panel 4 to turn the screw thread in either direction thereby causing the leg to raise or lower while the operator refers to the level indicator 5.

  1. Claims 1. An assembly of motors and control panel to power the corner
    jack legs on a trailer caravan operated from a single location.
  2. 2. An assembly according to Claim 1 incorporating a level detection switch to automatically control the operation.
  3. 3. An assembly according to Claim 1 using jack legs pre-fitted with motors during the manufacturing process.
