Abstract
A device (20) comprises a plurality of electro-active benders (21), each having two sections arranged to bend, on activation, with opposite curvature in the two sections, in an arrangement in which the displacements of individual benders (21), on activation, contribute to an overall, relative displacement between a proximal end and a distal end of the device (20). The mass of benders (21) in the arrangement decreases from the proximal end to the distal end of said device (20).
