Abstract

An adhesive tape comprises a foamed polyethylene substrate 2 with an adhesive 1 applied to one face thereof. The adhesive may be applied as a hot melt and is tacky but enables the tape to be cleanly peeled away from a surface without leaving a residue behind. The tape may be used to protect goods eg, items of furniture when in transit.

Description

Cushion Tape This invention relates to a manufactured product for
protecting edges of goods from impact damage during transit or general wear and tear.
Polyethylene foam tape would be used when companies wish to protect flat packed furniture or worktops in kitchens, from damage along the edges of their products. They would apply polyethylene foam tape along the edges, to protect their goods from impacts and scratching. This would save companies using this product from unnecessary and avoidable return of their goods from damage, which is caused during distribution. Therefore saving the users of polyethylene foam tape costs. Also protecting the users' company image and profile in the market by delivering undamaged stock. Often using conventional methods of packaging protection for products have not produced satisfactory results, with indentations, scratches and breakages of goods or products all too common. Polyethylene foam tape would prevent many of these problems by absorbing edge impact, using the small bubbles of air trapped inside the polyethylene foam strip, which act as a cushion between the protected goods and an impact.
The glue is attached to the polyethylene foam strip during manufacture, in heated liquid form on one side, creating a tape with similar properties to cellotape. The polyethylene foam tape is applied to a product and sticks along the product surface, where it is judged to be at most risk from potential damage. Once the product or goods have reached the consumer, intact, the polyethylene foam tape can be removed easily by hand, not only removing the tape but also glue residue, from the protected goods or products.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the polyethylene foam tape. Comprising of a polyethylene foam strip and tacky adhesive attached to one side.
Figure 2 shows the polyethylene foam tape attached to the edge of a kitchen In figure 1 the glue 1 is attached to the rear of the flexible polyethylene foam strip 2 creating tape that can be applied by sticking, using the adhesive glue on the rear of the strip 1 to the surface area of a product where protection is needed from impacts.
In figure 2 the solid wood kitchen worktop I is in need of protection from impact along its edges 4 where it is deemed to be at most risk of damage.
The polyethylene foam tape 2 is attached to the uncovered edge 4 of the kitchen worktop 1, to provide extra protection from impact damage. The glue to the rear of the polyethylene foam tape shown in figure I allows the polyethylene foam tape also shown in figure 1, to be attached by sticking to the edge of the kitchen worktop 1. When the polyethylene foam tape is no longer needed, it can be easily pulled away 3, from the edge of the kitchen worktop 4, the adhesive glue will leave no residue, as it is melted solidly during the production process, to the rear of the polyethylene tape as shown in figure 1.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims A polyethylene foam tape comprising of; 1. A polyethylene foam
strip of varying widths, thicknesses and lengths defined by its needed application, which has a tacky adhesive to one side of the polyethylene foam strip for attachment purposes, allowing the polyethylene foam tape to be easily attached and removed to and from surfaces.
