Abstract

An applicator comprises a head (10) having two major surfaces (12,14). A handle (16) extends from one surface (12) of the head. A resilient pad (18) is secured around the other surface which is bulbous. The head (10), in plan, has two ends (20, 22). One end (20) is arcuately curved and the second end (22) is pointedly curved.

Description

241 4664
A SUBSTANCE APPLICATOR
This invention relates to an applicator for applying a substance, such as a lotion, or cream or the like, to a surface such as the human skin. The applicator being for use primarily, but not exclusively, for applying a tanning cream to the back of a person's hand.
Artificial tan is applied to the human body by using rubber gloves to spread tanning cream thereover.
A disadvantage at present is that there has been no satisfactory way of applying an 0 artificial tan to the back of the hands without getting tanning cream also onto the palms of the hand. This then necessitates the hands to be washed so that the palms of the hands do not turn orange. The problem is that in washing the hands immediately after application, the tan is also removed from the fingers, leaving white fingers and brown backs of the hands.
Accordingly, the present invention is an applicator comprising a head having two major surfaces from one surface of which a handle extends, the other surface being bulbous and around which a resilient pad is secured, the head, in plan, having two ends, one end being arcuately curved and the second end being pointedly curved.
Preferably, the resilient pad is made from latex covered sponge which has approximately the same resistance as the tip of a human finger.
Preferably also, the top of the handle is provided with a slit so that the applicator can be slotted onto the top of a tube of facial or tanning gel.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig.1 is a perspective view of a substance applicator; Fig.2 is a side elevational view of the applicator; Fig. 3 is an end view of the applicator in the direction of arrow X shown in Fig.2; and :e a. a. e:e Fig. 4 is a plan view of the applicator.
Referring to the drawings, an applicator comprises a head 10 having two major surfaces 12,14 from one surface 12 of which a handle 16 extends. The other surface 14 is bulbous and around which a resilient pad 18 is secured. The head 10, in plan, has two ends. One end 20 is arcuately curved as shown and the second end 22 is pointedly curved as shown. The resilient pad 18 is made from latex covered sponge which has approximately the same resistance as the tip of a human finger. The top of the handle 16 is provided with a slit 24 so that the applicator can be slotted onto the top of a tube of facial or tanning gel (not shown).
The handle 16 is long enough to accommodate fingertips plus long gel nails so that if some tanning cream were to bleed over the edge of the pad 18 onto the one major surface 12, it Variations and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention described above.
