Abstract

The invention relates to protective gloves for use by hairdressers when washing hair. The glove 1 has simulated fingernails 2 to enable the scalp to be massaged more vigorously during washing. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Protective glove The present invention relates to a protective glove. Nowadays, hairdressers wear rubber gloves when washing hair to protect their hands and their nails. However when wearing rubber gloves it is not possible to massage the head as effectively as with a bare hand and in particular is it not possible to scratch the scalp for the purpose of clearing dandruff.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a protective glove with hardened portions at the fingertips to simulate fingernails.
The simulated fingernails enable the scalp to be massaged vigorously to clear the dandruff on the scalp during washing. It also assists in improving blood circulation so as to maintain the softness of the hair. At the same time, the hands of the user remain protected. The gloves may be sterilised before and after use so that maintaining the necessary standards of hygiene is inexpensive.
The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a plan view of a glove, and Figure 2 shows a section through the tip of a finger or thumb.
In Figure 1, there is shown a glove 1 with nails 2 secured to the fingertips. The glove 1 is made of a latex rubber or the like material of high elasticity.
The palm side of the glove is softer and thinner than the back of the glove and has a textured surface. This construction of the palm side enhances sensitivity and efficiency. The back of the glove, on the other hand, is substantially thicker and harder so as to be capable of having affixed thereto the nails 2.
As shown in Figure 2, each nail 2 has a large portion fixed into the glove 1 and a smaller protruding portion. The ends of the nail 2 are smooth to prevent damage to the scalp. At their base, the nails are upturned in order to prevent them from sliding into the material of the glove.
It can be seen that the invention provides a glove construction which while retaining the advantage of protecting the users hands, facilitates more vigorous massage of the scalp.
The gloves are furthermore inexpensive as they can be sterilised and reused. As it is important to provide a good fit, the gloves can be made in different sizes to suit the hand of the wearer.
1. A protective glove having hardened portions at the fingertips to simulate fingernails.
2. A protective glove as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the glove is made of an elastic material and relatively rigid nail portions are secured on the external surface of the fingertips.
3. A protective glove constructed substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
