Abstract
A portable and adaptable sun shelter and wind screen which uses the same components, i.e. groundsheet I, roof K, poles A and ropes E to construct variations of either a sun shelter (Fig 5) or a wind screen (Fig 8). The roof K has channels in it to receive poles A in the wind screen configuration, the poles A have stops to prevent roof K from sliding down in the sun shelter configuration, and various possible arrangements of the device are shown in Figs 6 and 9.

Description
Portable Sun Shelter and Wind Screen This invention is a compact, portable, dual purpose sun shelter or wind screen.
On a beach, people occasionally look for some sort of protection from the sun and at other times, from the wind.
As the weather changes during the day and people acclimatise, they may wish to change from sheltering from the sun to shielding themselves from the wind or visa versa. This would normally mean having to bring a second piece of equipment with them.
This invention would allow the person to quickly construct several variations of either a portable sun shelter or wind screen from the same components. The sun shelter would have a groundsheet and roof with open sides to let a breeze through and the windscreen would also have a groundsheet and be sturdy enough to shield the wind.
This would mean that the person would only need to bring one piece of equipment to do several tasks.
The invention will be described by the following example and accompanying drawings: The Sun Shelter and Wind screen are made up of the following components; Figure 1: Four, three section poles (A). The tops of which have detachable pole caps' (B) and just below these are 'stops that sandwich a movable 'S' link (C).
The bases have a ground 'spike' (D) at their ends. There are 6 guide ropes with a tension device and a hook and eye at either end (E), 6 ground pegs (F), 4 ties (G) 4 sturdy hollow ground spikes (H) allow you to use the structure on hard ground, the spikes are put into the ground and the poles are inserted down the middle of these.
Figure 2: The groundsheet (I) is a rectangular piece of material with eyelets (]) at each of its corners and in the middle of each of its longest sides.
Figure 3: The roof (K) is a longer rectangular piece of material with eyelets (]) in each of its corners and two further eyelets equi-distant along each of its longest sides. There are 4 channels (L) sewn in to the roof widthways between corresponding eyelets, to accommodate poles.
Page 2 Sun Shelter The groundsheet (I) is laid out and poles are inserted through each of the four corner eyelets of the groundsheet into the ground. Guide ropes (E) are attached to each of the poles at the 'stop and S links'. Figure 4.
The roof (K) is then place over the top of the assembled four poles using the corresponding eyelets in the roof and rests on the 'Slops' (C) of each pole. As the roof is longer than the groundsheet, a section (Ki) is able to flap down to provide a side screen or be tied back across the roof using the ties. The roof is held in place on the four poles by pole caps (B). The Guide ropes are then tightened and the structure made rigid. Figure 5.
This structure can be set up in several variations which are shown in Figure 6.
(a,b,c,d,e) Wind Screen Each of the four poles is inserted into each of the 4 channels (L) of the roof section (K). Ties (G) are then used to tie the 'stop and S link' of each of the poles to the 'eyelet' adjacent to it, thereby securing the 'roof' to the poles.
Figure 7 The Groundsheet (I) is laid out and 3 of the poles are inserted through the side eyelets of the groundsheet into the ground and the fourth is inserted straight into the ground. Two guide ropes (E) are attached to each of the end poles (Al, A2) and one to each of the remaining two poles. The guide ropes are then tightened and the structure made rigid. Figure 8.
This structure can be set up in several variations which are shown in Figure 9 (a,b,c)
