Abstract

A tool includes a hole to fit a 17mm hex nut (3) for tightening and loosening the nuts with extensions on either side enabling the overall hole to fit a standard wing bolt (1). At the other end of the tool is a hole to fit a 19mm hex nut (4). with extensions either side to fit an ergonomic wing bolt (2). In the middle of the shaft of the tool is a trapezium shaped slot (5) that can fit different sized shackle pins from 2 T to 4 ² T with space at the smaller end of the trapezium slot (5) for the attachment of the tool to a lanyard for working at height (6).

Description

Combined Spanner and Shackle Tool 241 3296 The invention relates to a tool
that includes the facility for tightening and loosening of the most common types of fixing within the entertainment industry such as wing bolts, hex bolts and shackles.
Tools for some of the operations this invention can accomplish are already available but each tool will only complete one operation and so most technicians within the industry are forced to carry four to five different tools, which can be heavy and cumbersome especially when working at height. There is also no tool specifically designed to undo shackle pins when they become seized from load being applied.
An object of this invention is to provide one simple tool than can be easily carried which accomplishes all of the tasks of several other tools.
Accordingly, this invention is a flat tool with shaped holes in it corresponding to each type of fixing required including Wing bolts both standard and ergonomic, 1 7mm and 1 9mm Hex nuts/bolts and shackle pins 2 /z T to 4 3/4 T. Preferably the tool will be manufactured from l/. inch steel plate, but it may be manufactured from a different thickness plate or composite alloy depending on manufacturing techniques.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a plan view of the tool.
As shown in figure 1 the tool comprises of a flat piece of metal with holes in it to fit a 1 7mm hex nut (3) for tightening and loosening the nuts.
On either side of hole (3) there are extensions enabling the overall hole to fit a standard wing bolt (1).
At the other end of the tool is a similar hole to (3) but to fit a 1 9mm hex nut (4). As with hole (3) hole (4) also has extensions either side to fit an ergonomic wing bolt (2) enabling the tool to tighten and loosen both fixings.
In the middle of the shaft of the tool is a trapezium shaped slot (5) that can fit different sized shackle pins from 2 I/z T to 4 3/4 T. At the smaller end of the trapezium slot (5) is a position for the attachment of the tool to a lanyard for working at height (6). - 2-

Claims (7)

  1. Claims 1.) A tool that includes the facility for tightening and loosening
    of the most common types of fixing within the entertainment industry such as wing bolts, hex bolts and shackles.
  2. 2.) A tool as claimed in Claim 1 where the facility for tightening and loosening 1 7mm hex nuts/bolts is combined with the facility to tighten and loosen standard wing bolts.
  3. 3.) A tool as claimed in Claim 1 where the facility for tightening and loosening 1 9mm hex nuts/bolts is combined with the facility to tighten and loosen ergonomic wing bolts.
  4. 4.) A tool as claimed in Claim 1 where the facility for tightening and loosening shackle pins from 2 t/z T to 4 3/4 T bow shackles is combined into one hole.
  5. 5.) A tool as claimed in Claim 4 where the fixing point for a lanyard is incorporated into the same hole.
  6. 6.) A tool as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from any steel or alloy material.
  7. 7.) A tool substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
