Abstract

A technique for system design using artificial intelligence. System components to be incorporated into the design are selected from a larger set of available components using a genetic algorithm. Values assigned (e.g., by a user) to attributes for the design may be incorporated into a fitness function. Accordingly, the fitness function is adaptive in that it differs for each different set of desired attribute values. Individual designs are selected from a population according to their fitness, as determined ny applying the fitness function. Multiple generations of the genetic algorithm may be performed therby refining the population of possible designs. An individual design may be selected from the population when a pre-determined number of generations have been formed and/or when generation-to-generation improvements in fitness values diminish.
