Abstract

A water supply for a mobile home comprises water outlets in the mobile home attached to first piping 10 which has a socket 12. Second piping 16 with a corresponding plug 18 is linked to a water supply container 14. A pump 20 is integrated into the first piping. The pump 20 is powered from a battery or mains electricity. The second piping is fitted with a filter 26.

Description

WATER SUPPLY INSTALLATION FOR MOBILE VEHICLE.
This invention relates to a water supply installation for temporary connection to a water supply system fitted into a mobile vehicle when stationary, the vehicle being such as a motor home, a mobile caravan or other caravan, for example a static house caravan which does not have a permanent water supply installation via a connection to, such as a tap or stop-cock.
Heretofore, a temporary water supply installation has comprised two sections, a first section which is installed on the vehicle as an integral part of a water supply system and a to second section which is located outside the vehicle. The water supply system comprises one or .
more taps or other outlets connected to and fed through a first length or circuit of piping. The outer end of the piping is connected to the first section which is a first part of a two part ë sockeVplug fitment, the first part being the socket secured to a wall of the vehicle. The socket has a cover to mask the interior of the socket when the plug is not inserted. The second section A. 1S comprises a water supply container in which a submersible pump is installable for pumping water therefrom through a second length of piping connected between the pump and the second part of the fitment which is the plug. The container may be of drum shape having in one end wall an aperture with an external screw threaded nozzle through which the pump is inserted into and removed from the container. The second length of piping has a cap captured thereon, the cap being for engagement with the nozzle. The pump is energised from an electric battery provided inside the vehicle, a length of wiring being provided encased in a tubular sheath from the battery to the pump through the sockeVplug fitment, a first length of sheath being provided in the vehicle similar in length to the first length of piping, and a second length of sheath being provided outside of the vehicle similar in length to and connected with the second length of piping.
Actuation of the pump is achieved by either a micro-switch in each outlet when fumed ON, or a pressure sensing switch. This switch can either be contained within the sockeVplug fitment or in a separate in-line device. If a carbon water filter is provided, this is either fitted to the piping near to the tap or other outlet or contained within the wall socket. In the first instance, difficulty is experienced in checking and/or cleaning such filters: the location may be difficult to access, i.e. in a cupboard or under a seat, and water may be spilled in the area of the filter in such cleaning.
Some motor homes have an internal water supply installation including a self-priming pump for s use on a joumey. However, periodically the water tank on board has to be replenished with water. Either a hose fitting is provided on the wall of the vehicle for connection to a tap or stop- cock of a permanent water supply, or a first and a second section of a water supply installation described above are used including a submersible pump. A disadvantage of these existing installations is that a submersible pump has to be used in the container and the man-handling of ë.e : 10 the pump into and out of the container causes damage and breakdown requiring periodic I. . replacement.
.. An object of the present invention is to obviate or mitigate the above disadvantage.
:. Accordingly, the present invention is a water supply installation for a mobile vehicle . comprising a water supply system having one or more taps or other outlets connected to and fed ë through a first length or circuit of piping in a first section to a first part of a sockeVplug fitment, and a second section comprising a water supply container in which one end of a second length of piping is locatable in the container with the other end being connected to the second part of the fitment wherein a self-priming pump is integrated into the first length or circuit of piping.
Preferably, the one end of the second length of piping is fitted with a filter.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing which shows a perspective view from above of a water supply installation according to the present invention.
Referring to the drawings, a water supply installation for a mobile vehicle comprises a water supply system having one or more taps (not shown) or other outlets connected to and fed through a first length or circuit of piping 10 in a first section to a first part, namely a socket 12 of a sockeVplug fitment. A second section of the installation comprises a water supply container 14 in which one end of a second length of piping 16 is locatable in the container 14 with the other end being connected to the second part of the fitment which is the plug 18. A seH- priming pump is integrated into the first length or circuit of piping 10 as shown. The socket 12 has a cover 13 spring-biased to a closed position.
The container 14 is of drum shape having in one end wall an aperture with an external s screw threaded nozzle 22 through which the end of the second length of piping 16 is inserted into and removed from the container 14. The second length of piping 16 has a cap 24 captured thereon, the cap 24 being for engagement with the nozzle 22. The one end of the second length of piping 16 is fitted with a filter 26. The pump 20 is energised from an electric battery 28 provided inside the vehicle as shown. Altematively, the pump is provided with connecting means - .e to be energised from a mains electrical source external of the vehicle. Further altematively, both .
. .. an electric battery provided inside the vehicle and a means for connecting to a mains electrical In. : source are provided with a switch mechanism inside the vehicle to enable the user to operate : :. : one or other electrical sources depending on availability of one or other source.
. . In use, when the mobile vehicle arrives at a site, the container 14 is filled with potable .
.l; water and conveyed to a position near to the side of the vehicle where the ftment is positioned and integrated into the onboard water supply system by connecting the plug 18 into the socket 12 and the other end of the piping 16 with filter 26 into the container 14 as shown in the drawing.
Variations and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention described above and as claimed hereinafter.
