Abstract

A tool for measuring and marking out deviations in the contours of surfaces comprises two relatively slidable portions. One portion has a graduated scale, a contact point 2 and a screw 3. The other portion comprises a channel in which the one portion may slide. In use the tool is extended and locked at a predetermined measurement by tightening the flush fitting screw 3, when the contact point 2 is touching the contoured surface. The tool is then moved by hand on the piece to be marked to follow the contour whilst point 1 is used as the marking point.

Description

The contour Scribe The invention relates to a measuring tool for measuring
and marking out deviations in contours of surfaces.
Throughout industry, and especially in the construction trades, problems are encountered with regards to measuring and marking when two surfaces are to be butted together Rush and one of them is of an uneven nature in: - contoured. Existing methods for measuring and marking contours can be difficult and inaccurate.
The object if the contour scribe is to simplify and provide a more accurate measurement during the process of butting two surfaces flush when encountering uneven surfaces.
The invention provides a measuring and scribing mechanism. The invention comprises of three working parts. One internal sliding piece with a measuring, marking and scribing facility which in turn slides along the inside of an external receiver. The third part being a flush fitting screw on the internal sliding piece designed to lock the internal sliding piece in position at a specific point.
The contour scribe could be manufactured of metal or wood but preferably would be plastic.
The following will now seek to describe certain features with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure I - shows a plan view of the tool extended.
Figure 2 - shows a plan view of the tool retracted and at 0 position.
Figure 3 - shows the end elevation.
As shown in figure I the tool can be extended and locked at a predetermined measurement by tightening the flush fitting screw 3 When the contact point 2 is touching the contoured surface. The tool can then be moved by hand to follow the contour enabling point 1 to be the marking point on the corresponding material or piece which is to be butted flush and is to correspond exactly with the shape of the contour. Thus enabling an accurate abbutment.

  1. Claims 1. A tool for transferring the contours and shapes of one surface
    to another, enabling a second surface to be marked or scribed which in turn can be cut and shaped to the exact dimensions of the first surface which allows a flush abutment.
