Abstract

A hand hold scribing gauge, suitable for use in the fitting of kitchen or bedroom furniture, comprises a body member 1 supporting a marking stylus 2 and being slidably mounted on a measuring member 4, a locking can 6 being provided. The member 4 is provided, at one end, with a nylon foot 5 for engaging a wall surface and, at the other end, with a paint to follow the contours of a skirting board or dado rail. <IMAGE>

Description

S;IJUSTABLS SCRIBING W3.UGE This invention relates to a hand held adjustable scribing gauge.
Gauges and tools for scribing a line or mark on to a surface are widely known and used throughout industry, however, none of the existing scribing gauges and tools are suitable for use in the fitted kitchen and fitted bedroom trades.
According to the present invention there is provided a positive and accurate means of scribing a line or mark at a predetermined distance following the contours of a wall or similar substrate on to the surface of a board or panel the resulting line is then cut leaving a piece of board or panel whioh will accurately fit the gap between the wall or sub strate and the adjacent end of a wardrobe or kitchen unit.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows in perspective the soribing gauge with a pencil in place.
Referring to the drawing the scribing gauge comprises a body member 1 drilled centrally front to back to accept the marking stylus 2 which is held in place by a locking screw 3, the sliding measuring member 4, which is reversible, comprises a channel section one end having a nylon foot 5 for engaging a wall surface without damaging the wall decoration, the opposite end having a point to follow the contours of a skirting board, dado rail or similar.
The central face of the channel section has a slot running almost the entire length which allows the scribing stylus to project through sufficiently to make its mark.
A predetermined distance is chosen and the sliding member is locked by the locking cam 6 using the scale moulded along both sides of the measuring slide.

Claims (1)

1. A hand held scribing gauge for scribing a line or mark on to the surface or a board or panel.
2. A hand held scribing gauge as claimed in claim 1 wherein a nylon foot is provided on one end of the measuring slide.
3. A hand held scribing gauge as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein the measuring slide is reversible.
4. A hand held scribing gauge as claimed in claim 2 and claim 3, wherein the measuring slide has one pointed end.
5. A hand held scribing gauge as claimed in claim 4 wherein the measuring slide is locked in position by a looking oam.
5. A hand held scribing gauge as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the measuring slide has a scale of sizes moulded into the surface along each side.
7. A hand held soribing gauge substantially as desoribed herein with reference to figure 1 of the accompanynlg drawing.
