Abstract

A combined lighting and ventilation device 10 comprises a natural daylight lighting arrangement 16, an artificial lighting arrangement 18 and a ventilation arrangement 20 extracting air from a room 12. Device 10 may comprise a housing 22 and a backing plate (27, fig 5) for mounting in a ceiling 24. Natural lighting arrangement 16 may comprise a light collector 28 mounted on a roof 30 coupled to an internally reflective pipe 32 and a diffuser 34 mounted on the housing 22. Artificial lighting arrangement 18 may comprise one or more halogen spotlights 36a, 36b mounted in members 38a, 38b in apertures 40a, 40b of the housing 22 and may be powered by mains electric or solar energy from a photovoltaic panel 49 and a battery 52. Ventilation arrangement 20 may comprise a ventilation duct 42 having a flexible duct 42a connected to an exhaust 47 and a rigid duct 42b, which extends from an aperture 44 covered with a grille 46. Ventilation may be via an electric or solar powered fan (48, fig 4) or by passive ventilation without the fan. An infrared movement sensor 50 may be provided to actuate the spotlights 36a, 36b and/or the fan (48). Room 12 may be a bathroom.
