Abstract
A food supporting rack for use with an oven or grill includes a dish 2 with an inclined base 3 sloping towards a collecting basin 4, skewers with an hexagonally shaped feature 7, holding plates 8 preventing lateral movement of the skewers and a rack 1 with shaped receiving slots 5 preventing free rotation of the skewers. The apparatus may be fitted with a handle.
Description
Food Rack for domestic grill / oven
Description
This invention is a rack device for simplifying the cooking of certain foodstuffs such as shish kebabs or sausages in a domestic grill oven
Background
The current options available for those wanting to cook certain foodstuffs such as kebabs or sausages are limited. The most common method is to use a 'shallow dish' or Grill pan' as normally supplied by the oven manufacturer (additional devices are provided in some newer models). This method of cooking has some problems such as the difficulty of 'turning' foodstuffs to ensure even cooking Also, direct contact of the foodstuffwith the grill pan can cause the foodstuffto stick. Finally, the need to marinate while cooking can also be problematic when a person has to move the shallow dish to collect the spent marinade to remarinate or baste the food stuff.
This invention will provide effective resolution to these problems The kebab rack can be used with an overhead grill or oven This invention consists of a rack device fitted onto a collecting tray Specially designed skewers are also provided.
The rack and collecting tray can be easily disassembled for easier cleaning and storage.
The rack has slots on one side to receive the tips of the skewers To ensure the skewers remain secure whilst turning the other side of the rack has hexagonal shaped slots to accommodate the specially designed skewer handles i) The base of the collecting tray is sloped allowing a marinade to be collected into a moulded basin incorporated into the design This will allow the user to easily reuse any marinade by 'spooning' the collected marinade over the foodstuff
Brief description of the drawings
The following provides a summary of the accompanying drawings which help to detail this invention.
Fig 1 provides a length-ways cross sectional diagram showing how the rack and dish are aligned.
Fig 2 illustrates the skewer showing the hexagon shaped 'nut' which prevents the skewer from turning whilst in use Fig3 & 3a provide detail on how the skewers slot into the rack.
Fig 4 provides a birds eye view of the fully assembled skewer rack
Detailed description
As shown in Figure 1 the rack (1) and dish (2) slot together to form the body of the food rack. As shown the base of the dish (3) slopes along the length of the collecting tray to allow any liquid to collect in the collecting basin (4) The rack has hexagon shaped slots (5) running three quarters of the length of the rack Simple notches run opposite these shaped slots to accept the tips of the skewers. The invention includes handles (6) for easier carrying.
Figure 2 details the specially designed skewer handle which incorporates the hexagonal shaped nut (7). The holding plates (8) ensure the skewer is kept in place.
As detailed in Figure 3 and Figure 3a the tip of the skewer is placed in the relevant slot The specially designed handle is then placed into the hexagon slots to ensure no unnecessary turning of the skewer can occur Whilst cooking the user can evenly cook the foodstuffby lifting the handles slightly, turning, and then replacing as described above.
Whilst cooking the user can marinate the foodstuff as required The spent marinade would collect in the collecting bowl (4) in the base of the dish (3). If subsequent marinating is required the user can spoon the 'spent' marinade over the foodstuff.
For easier cleaning rack (1) should be removed from the dish (2).
Claims (7)
- Claims 1 A food rack of specific design with hexagonal shaped notcheswhich accommodate shaped skewers which also incorporates a sloped base and moulded collecting basin to be used with a domestic oven or grill
- 2. A food rack as claimed in claim 1 where the notches accept the designed skewers are hexagonal shaped to control turning of the skewers
- 3 A food rack as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 that includes designed skewers that incorporate a hexagonal shaped nut that fit in the hexagonal shaped notches to control turning of the skewers.
- 4 A food rack as claimed in any preceding claim that includes designed skewers that include two holding plates to prevent the skewers from sliding from the rack.
- 5. A food rack as claimed in any preceding claim that incorporates handles for easier carrying.
- 6. A food rack as claimed in any preceding claim where the base is sloped in design to allow liquids to be collected in a collecting basin
- 7. A food rack as claimed in any preceding claim that can be manufactured from metal, ceramics or a combination of these two materials.8 A food rack substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings
