MOUNTING ARRANGEMENTS
DESCRIPTION
Technical Field
This invention relates to mounting arrangements and in particular to such arrangements for mounting printed sheet material for display.
Background
It is known to mount printed sheet material for display by affixing it to a support member such as rigid backing board, or to print directly onto a sheet of thick rigid board, that is either hung in elevated position (e.g. from a ceiling), or is itself supported by a floor-mounted stand (e.g. a tripod, shelf, table, counter, or the floor itsel0. To provide for viewing of the display material from opposite sides, it is also known to provide a printed sheet of display material affixed to each side of a common support member. Production of such hanging displays is expensive due to the need to :20 provide, for each printed display, a backing card that will provide the requisite rigidity for the standing or hanging structure, and this expense is exacerbated where it is necessary frequently to change the printed sheet material being displayed. Merely hanging a flexible substrate (e.g. a paper, flexible thin card or film sheet) bearing the printed image to be displayed provides no solution bechause it is of insufficient rigidity to provide a good quality display.
Summary of the Invention
With a view to overcoming this, and/or other disadvantages of mounting arrangements known heretofore, one aspect of the present invention provides an arrangement for mounting printed sheet material for display and comprising a support member, a sheet of transparent film material attached to an upper part of the support member, a first 1, i :. it: ee. ee.e:.. - 2
length of magnetic tape attached to a lower part of the support member, and a second length of magnetic tape attached to a lower part of the sheet of transparent film material arranged for magnetic attraction to the first length of magnetic tape thereby to provide a readily openable, magnetically closed cavity for the receipt of the printed sheet material to be displayed.
This arrangement allows for insertion into the cavity of a flexible substrate (e.g. a paper or film sheet) bearing the printed image to be displayed, and for this to be draped or stretched into close conformity with the shape of the support member by the sheet of transparent film material.
According to another aspect of this invention there is provided an arrangement according to said one aspect of the invention and containing in its cavity a flexible substrate (e.g. a paper, flexible thin card or film sheet) bearing the printed image to be displayed.
Preferably the first length is dimensionally similar to the second length.
Advantageously the sheet of transparent film material extends over both a front face and a rear face of the support member, each face of the latter is provided with a said first length of magnetic tape, and a corresponding said second length of magnetic tape is attached to the transparent film material to engage magnetically the respective two first lengths and form two opposed readily openable, magnetically closed cavities for the receipt of the printed sheet material to be displayed.
Preferably the support memaber of a one-piece extrusion of double-walled plastics material sheeting. Advantageously, such double-walled plastics material sheeting is directly molded or fabricated into the form of an oval or pillow-shaped support structure. i i
te a eë . - 3 Preferably in this case said structure is of transparent double-walled plastics material sheeting, and the interior of the oval or pillow-shaped structure contains electrical illumination means to illuminate, from the rear, the printed display material that is in use inserted into the said cavity or cavities.
Brief Description of the Drawings
By way of example one embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings of which: Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a mounting arrangement according to this invention, and Figure 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view taken along the line IIII of Fig 1.
Detailed Description of Example(s) of the Invention The illustrated mounting arrangement 10 is to provide for the display of two sheets 12,14 of printed material, e.g. advertisements, from opposite sides of a common support member IS. Each of the sheets 12,14 is a flexible substrate (e.g. a paper, flexible thin card or film sheet) bearing the printed image to be displayed The support member 15 is of oval or pillow- shaped construction that is directly molded to this shape or fabricated into the shape from one or more one-piece extrusions of double-walled plastics material sheeting, e.g. a twin-walled, internally-ribbed extrusion of polyethylene, polypropylene, propylene ethylene copolymer, or other suitable plastics material. In this embodiment, a preferred height for the oval or pillow-shaped support member IS is approximately 1 metre.
A sheet 16 of transparent film material is attached to the top, or an adjacent upper part, of the support member 1 S such as to drape over at least one, and preferably both, faces of the support member. A first length of magnetic tape 17 is attached to the bottom, or an adjacent lower part, of at least one, and preferably both, of the faces of the support member IS, and a second length 18 of magnetic tape is attached to the or preferably each bottom, or correspondingly adjacent lower part, of the sheet 16 of transparent c ë

film material. The arrangement is such that, by magnetic attraction, the first length 17 and second length 18 of magnetic tape are attracted to one another and bond releasably to one another thereby to provide a readily openable, magnetically closed cavity 20 for the receipt of the printed sheet material 12,14 to be displayed.
Preferably, but not necessarily, the first length of tape 17 is dimensionally similar to the second length of tape 18.
In use, the mount 10 is supported by cord or cable 22 from a ceiling 24. To provide for the required display, the or each magnetic bond 17,18 is pulled apart to open the respective cavity 20 and insert therein the desired sheets 12,14 comprising flexible substrate (e.g. a paper, flexible thin card or film sheet) bearing the printed image to be displayed, and is then allowed to magnetically close together again. This permits the transparent sheet 16 to cling to the printed sheet 12,14 and to any portions of the oval or pillow-shaped support IS providing a margin about the printed sheet material 12 and/orl4, and cause the flexible substrates 12,14 to be draped or stretched into close conformity with the shape of the support member. Rapid initial insertion of the flexible printed sheet material 12,14 and similarly rapid exchange of one or each inserted flexible printed sheet material 12,14 for another is thus possible.
Preferably the oval or pillow-shaped support structure lS is formed of double-walled plastics material sheeting that is transparent, and the interior of the oval or pillow shaped structure contains electrical illumination means (not shown), e.g. one or more fluorescent tubes, to illuminate the or each printed display material sheet 12, 14 from the rear.
It will be appreciated that other embodiments of the invention may incorporate different features to those specified above for the illustrated embodiment. For example: the height of the support member 15 may be quite different (both greater or lesser) to the lm stated above; one tape (17 or 18) may extend continuously the whole length of the member to which it is attached and the other tape (18 or 17 respectively) may extend 1, e e - 5 discontinuously as a series of small sections for part or all of the whole length of the member to which it is attached Other modifications and embodiments of the invention, which will be readily apparent to those skilled in this art, are to be deemed within the ambit and scope of the invention, and the particular embodiment(s) hereinbefore described may be varied in construction and detail, e.g. interchanging (where appropriate or desired) different features of each, without departing from the scope of the patent monopoly hereby sought. - 6
